Membership Criteria

Your answers to the questions in this section help us determine whether you meet the following membership criteria:

  • Be Black-led*
  • Serve one or more NYS community
  • Support BFU-NYS's Solutions​
  • Attend at least one monthly membership meeting or other eligible BFU-NYS event**
  • Commit to volunteer at least eighteen hours a year to BFU-NYS***

Once you submit this form, please allow some time for us to verify whether your organization meets these criteria and to notify you of our decision. If accepted, we will share with you next steps to maintain your membership.

*We define Black-led farms and organizations as those with predominantly+ Black boards and executive leadership, staff leadership, and constituents. (Developed from "The Case for Funding Black-Led Social Change", a project of ABFE: A Philanthropic Partnership for Black Communities and the Hill-Snowdon Foundation.)

  • +For organization leadership to be considered "predominately Black," at least 51% of leadership must be Black.


**If we partially approve your membership request, you will receive invitations to join our upcoming membership meetings and other eligible events.


***Eighteen hours can include attendance at monthly meetings, committee/working group work, or independent work that has been identified and agreed upon at regular monthly meetings. Eighteen (18) hours is equivalent to ninety (90) minutes a month.
