The Democracy Development Program (DDP) is a civil society organization that aims to deepen the practice of democracy in South Africa by building strong and active communities capable of holding those in power accountable.
Since our inception in 1993, we have achieved this mission by encouraging citizen engagement with pressing political and developmental issues, holding public and political forums that foster peaceful and constructive dialogue, providing democracy education, observing elections, strengthening civil society and community voices, and building functional and effective relationships between communities and local government.
