The New England Legal Foundation is open to annual membership for individuals, law firms, corporate law departments, foundations, and corporations. We also have a special student membership level. Members are assigned to the Advisory Council by their state of residence as well as their industry focus to encourage networking and to allow state-specific or industry-specific advice and perspective to be shared with NELF leadership. Our President is available to meet or speak with your organization and to answer any questions you may have regarding membership.
There are numerous opportunities to advance the cause of free enterprise, balanced economic growth, economic liberties, and to build strong relationships of value to you and your organization. Join us!
Enterprise-wide Membership
Once your law firm, foundation or corporation has joined the New England Legal Foundation, every employee of the organization will have access to membership benefits. You are not limited to only one or a select group of employees.
Networking Opportunities
New England Legal Foundation Advisory Council members are searchable by state or industry focus to make it easy for members to create synergies and build relationships. Live networking events at our Boston office and throughout New England create opportunities to connect with other members in person. Networking is a key return on investment for membership in the Foundation to allow members to explore mutual benefit and work collaboratively on issues of shared concern.
Events and Forums
New England Legal Foundation members can attend nearly all Foundation Events without additional cost and to include as many employees from your organization as you wish. Nearly all live events will be live-streamed to allow participation from the New England region regardless of event location. This includes our popular CEO breakfast forum, panel discussions of cutting-edge legal issues, and our President's Networking meet and greet events.
Boston Office Work Space
The New England Legal Foundation's Boston office is conveniently located two blocks from South Station and just steps away from Boston's Financial District, Leather District, and Chinatown neighborhoods. Our office is a 15 minute walk from government offices on Beacon Hill and Government Center. Members can reserve a private visiting attorney office or conference room without charge on a space-available basis if you need a place to work or meet while in Boston. We have excellent wifi and business center capabilities. For the safety of our staff and other members, we may require proof of Covid vaccination and/or face coverings while working in common areas.
Referrals
The New England Legal Foundation litigates matters of public interest without charge, but we do not compete with law firms. We refer inquiries from New England businesses and potential clients to our qualified members when we are contacted on matters not involving questions of public interest or when the client has the ability to pay for private counsel.
State Advisory Committees
The New England Council encourages members to participate in one or more of our state Advisory Councils, during which members develop positions and recommend legal advocacy for consideration by the Board of Directors on issues of importance to the region's economy. The Advisory Councils also host speakers of interest to their particular sector of the economy at locations convenient to members in each state.
Pro Bono Bank
As a non-profit public interest foundation, the New England Legal Foundation is a great recipient for member lawyer or law firms' pro bono services. We track and draw upon donated or pledged pro bono hours with opportunities for lawyers to participate as co-counsel in amicus briefs, legal research, forums and panels, and impact litigation. The Pro Bono Bank also allows IP, corporate, real estate, tax and other specialities to assist in promoting free enterprise for clients that otherwise could not afford private counsel.
Sponsorship Opportunities
Our members have the opportunity to serve as sponsors for programs and speakers of particular interest to your organization. We host live events in your law firm or corporate space throughout New England to introduce you to other legal and business leaders.
Newsletter, Publications, and Updates
Members also receive a monthly e-newsletter and regular email updates on New England Legal Foundation events and initiatives. This includes detailed summaries of every event, copies or abstracts of legal briefs, and updates and reports on issues of importance to the region's economy.
Annual Cabot Award Gala
We host the annual Cabot Award gala dinner in Boston annually which has grown in recent years to be one of the largest and most vibrant events for meeting other legal and business leaders and for recognizing excellence in corporate legal service. Our gala event tickets are made available first to our members as VIP invitees before we invite other members of the broader legal and business communities.
