Teach Rural Job Board
Teach Rural Job Board
Recently, our friends at the Rural Schools Collaborative launched the Teach Rural Job Board to assist rural schools in filling open positions with passionate, qualified candidates. We wanted to share this resource with you so that Illinois schools can take advantage of this new platform.

Candidates can browse open positions for teachers, principals, and administrators and learn more about the surrounding area by clicking on a region on the job board's map. Employers may post a new job here. Questions? Check out the FAQ or reach out to info@ruralschoolscollaborative.org.

Abstract
In rural Canada, the issue of school closures and consolidations due to low enrollment and heightened fiscal constraints has become a contentious and highly-charged issue for citizens and communities. This literature review synthesizes the major effects of school closure on rural communities, identifying economic impacts, social impacts, and implications for students. The historical context of Canadian rural schools, notions of rurality, urbanormativity and local complexity, along with considerations of urban-centered educational policy, are overarching themes identified in the rural school literature. These concepts were found to subsequently perpetuate the economic, social, and student-centered impacts reported. A relative dearth of research focusing on the community-level impacts of rural school closure, particularly in the Canadian context, supports the need for further in-depth studies that address gaps in the literature. These findings could in turn be used in the development of future educational policy which acknowledges rurality for rural Canadian communities.

America’s Heritage: An Adventure in Liberty is a performance-tested teacher lesson plan resource developed by the McNair Foundation, Houston ISD, and AHEF to strengthen K-12 education in the founding documents, institutions, history, and principles of the United States of America. The resource aims to provide teachers and students with opportunities to explore and understand the meaning and significance of events, causes, and effects–the whys–relating to and influencing early American history and its founding, and governing principles. All lessons emphasize one or more AHEF themes of Free, Unity, Progress, and Responsibility (FUPR) and provide students with opportunities to assess and examine their identities as Americans.
Written by and for teachers of social studies, U. S. history, U. S. government, political science, civics, geography, economics, and related subjects, this supplemental resource consists of ready-to-use, modifiable lessons, and learning activities in three volumes–elementary, middle, and high school level. Elementary (K-5) lessons correlate with the national Core Knowledge Skills. Middle (6-8) and high school (9-12) lessons correlate with the standards and objectives of the National Council for Social Studies (NCSS). As a supplemental program and resource, Adventure in Liberty may be used within any curriculum, school, or district to help teachers and homeschooling parents improve student learning, performance, and enrichment in these subjects. It requires no teacher training.
