Funded by a grant from the Library of Congress Teaching with Primary Sources program, NCHE is proud to announce a series of free, professional development opportunities designed to support K-12 teachers focusing on this year’s theme, Change and Development in Rural America. Support will be provided throughout all three parts of this project with built-in additional collaboration opportunities with other teachers and the NCHE staff.

The 988 Mental Health Lifeline has provided T-Mobile customers free access to vital health resources by simply making a phone call or text. Mental health advocates say the most recent Spanish language texting option is a necessary step in combatting the stigma around seeking help in Hispanic communities.

In December 2022, a bipartisan Congress created a new, permanent program for states and tribes to provide food dollars to low-income families with school-age kids over the summer months. This program, officially called , will help close the summer hunger gap when kids are on summer break and not getting nutritious school meals. USDA is just rolling out guidance and materials about Summer EBT but it is likely to benefit rural schools. More information is coming, but for now, please check out a few USDA webpages to learn more and stay up-to-date as more materials become available.
