With , the National Rural Education Association is embarking on a search for its next Executive Director, a leadership role critical to advancing our mission of supporting and advocating for rural schools, educators, and students across the nation. 

The Executive Search Committee is from individuals who are passionate about rural education and possess the leadership skills to guide the NREA into its next chapter. This is a unique opportunity for those eager to contribute to the NREA and, ultimately, to help shape the future of rural education.

Important Dates and Details:
  • All letters of interest will be accepted through Monday, September 30, 2024.
  • All letters of interest will be treated with strict confidentiality and will only be accessible to members of the NREA Search Committee.
  • The application process will remain open until filled.
  • The Committee is finalizing the full application and RFP procedures, which will be provided to those who express interest upon its completion.

United States Department of Education: Reminder on federal funding for homeless children and Youth

The American Rescue Plan Act included $800 million to support the urgent need of children and youth experiencing homelessness. ARP-HCY funds can provide critical wraparound and other supports for students experiencing homelessness who have been especially impacted by the pandemic. The obligation deadline for these funds is September 30, 2024.

To learn more, please refer to the  the Department released last fall which outlines allowable uses of this funding – and ask your district their plan for urgently supporting children experiencing homelessness in your community. For any questions, please reach out to

Rural Schools Collaborative is pleased to announce the 2024-25 Grants in Place Fellows Program. RSC and the selection committee will choose 17 Fellows who will work with their respective students on innovative Place-Based Education projects.

Each Fellow will receive a total award of up to $2,500 for the Place-Based project.
Eligibility for this grant is extended to rural classroom teachers who teach in school districts that are located in one of Rural Schools Collaborative's .
