A MESSAGE FROM THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
A MESSAGE FROM THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
Last month was not a busy month for AustCham, but a busy month for me personally. After four years in Laos I was able to return to Australia and see some family and friends. I spent a lovely few weeks there, partaking in great Australian products, mostly beer, wine and lamb.
I would like to thank AustCham President, Alistair Brown, and the AustCham Administration and Finance Officer, Sithisak (Kinoy) Sopha, who did a great job of keeping things going in my absence.

However I left on a slightly sad note, as AustCham bade farewell to our Vice President, Scott Morgan. Scott has been a pillar of the Australian business community here in Laos, and an active member of AustCham Lao. His presence will be sorely missed.

Finally, I would like to inform all our members of the upcoming Annual General Meeting. You can find more information about this further down in the newsletter.

Over the past 8 years, TGH has been the main sponsor for the marathon and has been using this as a platform to raise funds to support hospitals and children in Luang Prabang province. This initiative has helped more than 30,000 children each year, allowing them to have access to free health checkups in the hospitals in Luang Prabang.
This fund-raising event would not be a success without the support of more than 2,000 runners, volunteers and the cooperation of various organizations. In his opening remarks, Mr. Henrik Juel Andersen, Managing Director of Lao Brewery Company Limited, on behalf of LBC and TGH, is very proud to be the main sponsor and played a part to support the children in Luang Prabang. He also expresses his gratitude and appreciation to all supporters and runners for making this event a great success and hopes to continue this meaningful initiative next year and beyond!

Countries Could Cut Emissions by 70% by 2050 and Boost Resilience with Annual Investments of 1.4% of GDP
Countries Could Cut Emissions by 70% by 2050 and Boost Resilience with Annual Investments of 1.4% of GDP
The analysis, Climate and Development: An Agenda for Action, compiles and harmonizes results from the Bank Group’s Country Climate and Development Reports, covering over 20 countries that account for 34% of the world’s greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. It shows that investment needs are markedly higher in lower-income countries which are more vulnerable to climate risk, often exceeding 5% of GDP. These countries will need increased amounts of concessional finance and grants to manage climate change impacts and develop along a low-carbon path.

The report draws from the richness of the individual country reports and highlights lessons for countries on integrating climate and development objectives. It finds that this approach to climate action can help them manage the negative impacts of climate change, while generating positive impacts on GDP and economic growth, and delivering critical development outcomes such as reducing poverty. The key conditions for success include impactful reforms, improved allocation of public resources, higher mobilization of private capital, and significant financial support from the international community.

October Sundowner
Last month AustCham hosted our monthly sundowner at Sticky Fingers, sponsored by Milsearch. It was a bittersweet event as we said farewell Carolyn and Alan McKeown, who have run Milsearch together for many years. They have also both been heavily involved in AustCham Lao throughout their time in Laos and will be sorely missed. We wish them well in their next chapter.
