The legislative arena is bustling with activity. Here are a few highlights from the week regarding the progression of legislation that we are actively monitoring:
  • H571, related to public works contractor licenses, has successfully cleared the House Business Committee and is now poised for discussion on the House floor.
  • S1290, which addresses the consolidation of election deadlines, has garnered unanimous support in the Senate Chamber and is set to progress to the House of Representatives.
  • S1320, pertaining to the maintenance of public right-of way, has successfully cleared the Senate Transportation Committee and currently resides on the 3rd Reading Calendar awaiting Senate consideration.
Upcoming: Keep an eye out for the release of the transportation appropriations bill by the Joint Finance Appropriations Committee (JFAC). Stay tuned for more details in upcoming editions of The Roadmap.

Congratulations to Dustin Raymond and Jorge Leon with Twin Falls Highway District for attaining the esteemed Road Master certification, the pinnacle of recognition in the Idaho Road Scholar Program. This program, tailored for local road professionals, boasts an extensive curriculum that delves into the fundamentals of safety, management, advanced technologies, and a diverse range of other topics crucial to the transportation sector.

Administered by the Local Highway Technical Assistance Council (LHTAC), the Idaho Road Scholar Program annually educates numerous local highway professionals. For further insights into the program, click here and discover more about this impactful initiative.

  • The United States is on the brink of a somber milestone, approaching four million traffic-related fatalities since 1899. This alarming statistic has reignited a pressing sense of urgency among top transportation officials, prompting a renewed commitment to tackling this ongoing crisis (). 
  • According to a report from the Michigan Infrastructure & Transportation Association, there is an imperative requirement of $3.9 billion for the repair and maintenance of the state’s transportation system, with a substantial $2.4 billion specifically for local roads ().
