National Transportation News
  • The President of the American Assoc. of State Highway and Transportation Officials has cautioned the U.S. House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee about the dire consequences of annual crashes, which incur a staggering $1.4 trillion economic and societal impact on the U.S. economy. An emphasis was placed on the insufficient revenue available for maintenance and the exacerbation of traffic congestion. ()
  • Maryland policymakers aim to increase the fine for speeding in construction zones, captured by a speed camera, from $40 to $290. This initiative follows a tragic incident on I-695 where six construction workers lost their lives to a speeding vehicle less than a year ago. ()
  • Among 34 states, Idaho was granted $1.9 million by the Federal Highway Administration's Emergency Relief program to facilitate crucial repairs necessitated by the adverse weather conditions of rain, snowmelt, and flooding in 2022. ()
  • Portland City Council unanimously elected to send 10-cent/gallon gas tax to voters as the Portland Bureau of Transportation grapples with a $60 million deficit over the next 5 years due to projected reduction of gas tax revenue. ()
