Positive Outlook for Malaysian Economy Revealed by International Monetary Fund |
|
Continued Growth According to the latest World Economic Outlook (WEO) titled "Steady but slow, resilience amid divergence," the IMF forecasts that Malaysia's GDP growth will remain at 4.4% in 2025. Additionally, Malaysia's current account balance is projected to be 2.4% in 2024 and 2.7% in 2025.
Global Economic Trends The IMF estimates global growth at 3.2% for 2023, expecting it to continue at the same pace in 2024 and 2025. While the forecast for 2024 has been revised to be slightly higher, the pace of expansion remains modest compared to historical standards.
Risks and Opportunities The IMF also highlights downside risks, including price spikes due to geopolitical tensions and increasing geoeconomic fragmentation, and upside potential, such as looser fiscal policy and structural reforms that lead to productivity gains. Global headline inflation is expected to decrease to 5.9% in 2024 and 4.5% in 2025, with advanced economies returning to their inflation targets sooner than emerging markets.
Despite challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic and geopolitical tensions, Malaysia's economy continues to show resilience, with growth projections indicating steady and reliable progress. The IMF's outlook underscores the importance of navigating risks while capitalising on opportunities for sustainable economic development.

Last week, our Government Affairs and Public Relations team, Yoong Hau Wei and Asyraf Shahar met with JPA's Human Capital Development Division team, consisting of Hartini Rabu, Deputy Director; Mohamad Nazmi Ismail, Principal Assistant Director; and Norazlina Abd Hamid, Assistant Director.

| EPF Revamp Announced! Members Below 55 Will Have Three Accounts |

A restructuring exercise by the Employees' Provident Fund (EPF) will see the EPF Account 1 being renamed as Account Persaraan (Retirement Account), Account 2 as Account Sejahtera and the formation of the new Account 3 or the flexible account, say sources.
The EPF Account 3 is expected to be announced by the end of April.
