| Playing our part in Sustainable Development - together, as a nation |

The Malaysia Sustainable Development Goals Trust Fund (MySDG Trust Fund) was launched on 27th January 2022. It is a multi-donor mechanism inclusive of the private sector, non-governmental organisations, civil society, academia, citizens and other development actors alike to collaborate in achieving the sustainable development goals (SDG) collectively and as a nation.
This is a result of a strategic collaboration between the Malaysian government and the United Nations to attract contributions to implement various SDG programmes to address issues pertaining to poverty eradication, wildlife welfare and environmental and biodiversity conservation. The SDG are integrated—they recognise that action in one area will affect outcomes in others, and that development must balance social, economic and environmental sustainability.
In the immediate term, the MySDG Trust Fund will be geared towards the preservation of the country’s natural environment and its biodiversity. Subsequently, the scope of programmes and projects will be expanded for other SDG-related projects.
At the launch, Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob mentioned “Should we neglect this balance, the impact would be very significant – as we have seen recently – or it could be worse. This supersedes any measurable financial value”.
Leading by example, the Malaysian government allocated RM20 million to kickstart the five-year national development plans - providing an overarching policy framework for the country to achieve the SDGs in the medium and long-term.

Launched in February 2021, this exclusive interview – Take 5 offers an insider’s look into our respective members’ Green agenda and how their organisations are implementing various initiatives, activities and commitments that are both environmentally-friendly and sustainable. Featuring prominent members’ CEO, the interview aims to highlight industry champions and key opinion leaders to further push the Green narrative as a sustainable aspect of any business operation.
A year down the road, we have had the privilege to interview and feature ten (10) members’ CEO from prestigious organisations such as Standard Chartered, HSBC, PwC, Smith + Nephew to name a few - these are well-known organisations that are leading the green curve in terms of initiatives and implementation. As an example, Shell Malaysia have installed solar panels on rooftops of over 150 retail stations and are using wind and solar energy to power their offshore projects. University of Nottingham emphasise on student initiatives to reducing single-use plastics and encourage sustainable eating and reducing food waste. And HSBC are in the forefront of sustainable finance with green bonds and sustainability sukuks.

| Malaysian Government Launches Malaysia Renewable Energy Roadmap |

The Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources (KeTSA) launched the Malaysia Renewable Energy Roadmap (MyRER) in December 2021 to outline the strategic plans and initiatives by the Government in the Renewable Energy sector to meet its target of 31% of Malaysia’s installed capacity by 2025 and 40% by 2035.
The roadmap will outline opportunities for industry players in the Renewable Energy sector.

| Malaysia’s National Marine Litter Policy and Action Plan 2021-2030 Launched |

|
The Ministry of Environment and Water (KASA) launched the National Marine Litter Policy and Action Plan 2021-2030 to highlight the problem of marine litter that is causing damage and harm to marine animals and the environment.
The document outlines strategic actions along the value chain of plastic life cycle that would reduce marine plastic pollution through these five pillars:
- Policy Adoption and Implementation, Deployment of Technologies
- Innovation and Capacity Building
- Improve Monitoring and Data Collection on Marine Litter
- Communication, Education & Public Awareness (CEPA) and Outreach
- Whole-of-Nation and Multi Stakeholders Approach
This will provide opportunities for technology and solution providers in this sector to contribute to the government’s aspirations to implement circular economy as a catalyst for resource sustainability.
