Message of Condolences on the Passing of Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II |
|
Many may not be aware that during her reign, her official title is Elizabeth II, by the Grace of God, of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and of her other Realms and Territories Queen, Head of Commonwealth, Defender of the Faith. However, she is simply The Queen for many of us across the world.
Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II was well-known by many generations worldwide. On 8 September 2022, we received the sad news that the longest-reigning monarch and towering figurehead of the UK had passed away at the age of 96.
Like the rest of the world, the Board, the executive team and the members of the BMCC are deeply saddened upon hearing the news. For most of us, Queen Elizabeth II is probably the only monarch that we have come to know, love, admire and respect. So much so that she has been part of our lives for so many years, extending beyond the shores of the UK, including Malaysia.
Many Malaysians would fondly remember that Her Majesty had visited Malaysia three times during her reign. The Queen made her inaugural visit to Malaysia in 1972. She made subsequent visits to Malaysia when she attended the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in Langkawi in 1989 and she attended the closing ceremony of the XVI Commonwealth Games in Kuala Lumpur in 1998.
Seventy years as a reigning monarch is a long time but Her Majesty chose to dedicate her entire life to public service. It is such an outstanding achievement, which she handled with much dignity, grace, compassion and humility. It is definitely a sterling example for everyone, yet it will be a tough act to follow.
We will always remember Her Majesty for her sense of duty and devotion to a life of service. We will also be reminded of her becoming an important figurehead for the UK and the Commonwealth during times of crisis and celebration.
With the demise of Queen Elizabeth II, the crown is passed on to His Majesty, King Charles III as the new monarch and head of state of the UK. His Majesty has made a similar pledge to emulate his late mother's vow to devote her life to the service of her people.
"Wherever you may live in the UK, or in the Realms and territories across the world, and whatever may be your background or beliefs, I shall endeavour to serve you with loyalty, respect and love, as I have throughout my life," said King Charles III.
The BMCC extends our deepest condolences to His Majesty, King Charles III, the Royal Family and the people of the UK as we mourn this great loss. From the UK, the Commonwealth and the world, we will remember Her Majesty and her legacy forever.
Farewell, Queen Elizabeth II. You have served us well and you will be sorely missed.
