Revolutionising the Global Export Supply Chain for a Sustainable Future |
|
Together with the British High Commission Kuala Lumpur, we successfully organised a forum on Greening the Global Export Supply Chain, in collaboration with MATRADE as part of the BMCC's Climate Action Series.
Greening the global export supply chain is an urgent issue that requires immediate attention and action. The world is facing unprecedented environmental challenges, including climate change, resource depletion, and pollution, which are having a significant impact on our planet and society. The global supply chain plays a critical role in addressing these challenges in moving towards a sustainable future.
The forum brought together stakeholders from across industries to collaborate, share best practices, and drive innovation towards sustainable supply chains - in an effort to reduce the environmental impact of production and transportation, minimise waste and emissions, and promote the use of renewable resources. Participants also had the opportunity to hear from our speakers from the Government agencies on programmes and incentives available to support SMEs to embark on green initiatives.
Thank you, HE Charles Hay, MVO, the British High Commissioner to Malaysia; Shamsul Bahar, CEO of Malaysian Green Technology & Climate Change Corporation (MGTC); S. Jai Shankar, Director and Sustainability Lead of MATRADE; and Alastair Reed, Site Director, KL Manufacturing of Haleon, for sharing your insights and expert opinions, and Malar Odayappan, Director of Social Impact, Sustainability and Climate Change of PwC Malaysia for expertly moderating the panel discussion. Our appreciation to the British High Commission, KL and MATRADE for this important and timely collaboration.
Key takeaways from the forum:
- Everyone can join the green movement through MGTC's MyHIJAU - Malaysia's official green recognition scheme. The MyHIJAU mark and directory promotes the sourcing and purchasing of green products and services in Malaysia.
- We can only advance sustainability by working together as a team, shared Haleon. In driving the agenda forward, their organisation made it clear that they are all about sustainability and going green. Therefore, they will only work with those heading the same direction.
- MATRADE in collaboration with MITI and Bank Negara Malaysia is in the midst of rolling out the Greening Export Supply Chain Initiative (GxSCI), an engagement programme with a component called fund-matching, whereby MATRADE will be linking Malaysian companies, especially exporters to all the financial incentives that the Malaysian Government currently offers through various Ministries and agencies that can promote various different aspects of ESG compliance.
Together, let's make changes happen to meet net zero goals and to influence moves toward a Sustainable Supply Chain. Greening the global supply chain also presents economic opportunities for businesses as sustainable practices can improve efficiency, reduce costs, and enhance brand reputation, positioning companies for long-term success. |

IGB International School has installed solar panels in support of sustainability. This is a significant step towards reducing environmental impact and sustainability, which is what they often view through the lens of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDG) at IGBIS.
Once in operation, the 341kWh array will help offset 25-33% of their electricity needs. This will also help reduce carbon emissions which is crucial in mitigating the effects of climate change and promoting sustainable practices for a better future. |
