Collaborating for Success: Updates from the Second Education Committee Meeting
image
The BMCC's Education Committee (Ages 3-18 Years) is a platform that facilitates, promotes, and enhances educational links and collaboration through the exchange of best practices, issues, and challenges, advocacy, as well as to foster closer relationships amongst educators, especially those from the private international schools catering to the needs of students between ages 3 to 18.

Chaired by Alan Stevens, BMCC Board member and the Master of Marlborough College Malaysia, the second committee meeting for 2023 held last Friday discussed several important matters concerning the education sector. Key highlights from the meeting include:

Engagement with the Ministry of Education: Members discussed the challenges faced by private schools in Malaysia, particularly with the hiring and permit application of teachers with Qualified Teacher Status (QTS). The committee members will be meeting with the Ministry of Education Malaysia to iron out the matter to improve school operations.

Potential Collaborations: The committee members also discussed potential collaborations between member schools to contribute to the national school ecosystem. They expressed the need to work together to improve education outcomes in the country and discussed the possibility of sharing best practices, organising joint training programmes for teachers, and collaborating on research projects. The committee members agreed to explore these collaborations further in the coming months.

A Joint Forum with the Higher Education Committee: The Education Committee has agreed to organise a forum with the Higher Education Committee on the future of education and career. The forum will bring together education and industry experts to discuss the changing nature of work and the skills needed for the future workforce.

Student Conference on Sustainability: The Sustainability Working Group of the Committee is planning to organise a student conference on sustainability. Led by Year 10 and 11 students, the conference will focus on educating students about sustainable practices and their role in creating a sustainable future. The committee members applauded the effort and pledged their support for the conference.

Overall, the Education Committee had a productive meeting, and the members showed their commitment to improving education outcomes in the country. The committee members agreed to work together to address the challenges facing the education sector and explore potential collaborations to contribute to the national school ecosystem.
