Uniting Through Traditions at Hari Raya Open Houses |
What an incredible month it has been, filled with delightful celebrations, reconnecting with familiar faces, and forging new connections! We want to express our heartfelt gratitude to all our members, stakeholders, and all who had kindly invited us to join their Hari Raya Open Houses.
Hari Raya Open Houses provide a wonderful platform for our diverse community to come together, share traditions, and learn from one another. The vibrant array of traditional Malay delicacies, such as ketupat and rendang, tantalised our taste buds and sparked engaging conversations that fostered stronger ties between the British and Malaysian business communities. This not only strengthens our bond but also paves the way for future collaborations. The warm and inclusive atmosphere created a strong sense of camaraderie and goodwill among all the attendees.
We look forward to continuing this spirit of celebration, connection, and collaboration in the months to come. Together, we will build upon the foundation laid during the Hari Raya Open Houses and work towards even greater achievements. |

Process for Companies to Hire Professional Expats to be Shortened to 20 Days |
The Malaysian government is set to introduce a streamlined process for companies looking to hire professional expatriates, reducing the duration from around 3 months to 20 days. In the critical sector, the time frame will be further reduced to just 5 days, according to Rafizi Ramli, Minister of Economy.
The implementation of a "single window approach" will begin on 15 June, allowing companies to navigate the hiring process more efficiently. Rafizi explained that the new system, called the "Xpats Gateway," will be managed by TalentCorp Malaysia.
Currently, the process of applying for and obtaining approval to hire professional expatriates can take up to 80 days, depending on the specific sector. This extended duration is primarily due to the involvement of 11 separate agencies responsible for visa applications, a complexity that has been a major concern for industries seeking foreign expertise. The introduction of the "Xpats Gateway" aims to alleviate these challenges by centralising and simplifying the process. By consolidating the various agencies' functions into a single platform, companies will experience reduced waiting times and improved clarity. Rafizi emphasised that the implementation of the single window approach would be executed gradually. The initiative is part of the government's efforts to facilitate business operations and address industry concerns regarding the lengthy and intricate procedures involved in hiring professional expatriates.
Further info about Xpats Gateway can be found on the Immigration Department of Malaysia website here. |
