Insights Unveiled: Highlights from the Fireside Chat with YB Fahmi Fadzil, Minister of Communications and Digital of Malaysia
image
We are delighted to share the highlights from our recent fireside chat featuring YB Fahmi Fadzil, Minister of Communications and Digital Malaysia. The insightful discussion led by BMCC Chair, Mark Arthun centred around the nation's digital advancements and the ministry's recent trade mission to the UK.

During the conversation, YB Fahmi shared about the RM8.3 billion worth of investment commitments secured during his successful investment mission to London Tech Week 2023. These investments are expected to generate a minimum of 1,800 high-value jobs, further boosting Malaysia's digital economy.

YB Fahmi emphasised the importance of attracting and nurturing talent and expertise in data and technology as Malaysia gears up for its golden digital decade. He highlighted the country's progress as a "data processing centre," with several data companies establishing their presence in key cities such as Kuala Lumpur, Johor Bahru, and Penang. To reinforce Malaysia's position as a regional digital hub, the government aims to enhance digital literacy among Malaysians. By equipping citizens with digital skills, the nation can effectively combat cybercrime, including scams and data breaches.

In terms of infrastructure, YB Fahmi expressed confidence that 5G coverage will reach 80% of populated areas by the end of this year. This milestone will significantly contribute to Malaysia's digital transformation and connectivity goals.
Looking ahead, Malaysia aspires to achieve a digital investment target of RM130 billion by 2025, which will contribute 25.5% to the country's gross domestic product. This ambitious target reflects the nation's commitment to becoming a leading player in the digital landscape.

We are inspired by YB Fahmi Fadzil's vision for Malaysia's digital future and the ministry's efforts to position the country as an Asian digital tiger. Let us join hands in supporting and driving Malaysia's digitalisation journey.

Stay tuned for more exciting updates and initiatives as we progress towards a thriving digital ecosystem!
