Week 1: BMCC Represents Malaysia at UKABC's Sizzling Southeast Asia Roadshow
BMCC Executive Director, Jennifer Lopez concluded a 2-week trip to the UK to meet British companies keen to expand to Southeast Asia and to promote Malaysia as an attractive business destination. The first leg of the trip was part of the UKABC’s Sizzling Southeast Asia Roadshow, in partnership with Santander that brought the spokespersons of British Chambers in ASEAN to over 200 UK companies across the cities of Leicester, Birmingham, Manchester, Leeds and Durham.
The BMCC met with 50 export-ready companies, primarily from the Food & Beverage, Manufacturing and Digital sectors, providing invaluable practical knowledge on how to do business in Malaysia. More images and coverage here |

Week 2: Going Global in a Day, Reception by British Malaysian Society, International Trade Summit and BiSEA Roadshow at Kent Invicta Chamber of Commerce
The BMCC's second week in the UK continued in eventful fashion with Jennifer Lopez, joined by BMCC Trade Manager, Hezrie Musa attending a string of events to foster UK-Malaysia trade relations.
The 3-day Going Global Event, held in London and Guildford (14-16 Oct) was organised by the Department for International Trade where the BMCC met with over 100 UK companies and SMEs from various sectors in a series of bespoke 1-2-1 meetings.
On the 17th October, the BMCC attended the BCC International Trade Summit that held informative workshops, lively panel discussions with experienced exporting businesses and speeches from business heads and policy makers, including a special address by Graham Stuart MP, the UK Minister for Investment.
A busy two weeks in the UK concluded with the BiSEA Roadshow at the Kent Invicta Chamber of Commerce, where the BMCC regrouped with the delegates from the British Chambers of Indonesia, Myanmar, Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam for a half-day session of 1-2-1 meetings, networking and briefings with the local businesses of Kent. |

Welsh Delegation to Malaysia & Reception with British High Commissioner to Malaysia
Last week, the BMCC welcomed a delegation of companies from Wales. Led by Ms. Sarah James from the Welsh Government, the contingent included representatives from Atticus Digital, BCB International, CSCM Group, Huntington Fusion Techniques, Markes International, MM Engineering, Reid Lifting, Secure Sensor Innovative Design and Teddington Engineered Solutions.
For the visiting delegates, the BMCC organised briefings from the Department for International Trade (DIT) and Invest Selangor. Visits to the Federation of Malaysian Manufacturers (FMM) and The Exchange 106 at TRX KL (the tallest building in Malaysia at 454m) were also scheduled for briefings by MDEC, TMF Group, Cyberview and Mulia Group. A reception for the delegation was held that evening at the British High Commissioner's Residence, where H.E. Charles Hay, British High Commissioner to Malaysia and BMCC Board Members led my Chairman Andrew Sill greeted and networked with the Welsh representatives. More images here

Arup wins contract to complete Malaysia’s first major Rail Asset Condition Survey (ACS)
Kuala Lumpur, 15 October 2019 – Arup has been appointed by the Malaysian Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) Corporation to perform the first major railway asset condition assessment in the country with a contract value worth close to RM2.7mil. The commission will examine the condition of assets on the Sungai Buloh-Kajang Line (SBK Line) and will also provide a basis for a more holistic and proactive approach to asset management.
