Scaling Up the Carbon Neutrality Efforts with BSI
Our member BSI hosted an engaging session on carbon neutrality, led by their Head of Sustainability, Wan Muqtadir Wan Abdul Fatah. The discussion explored the "known unknowns" of achieving net-zero, highlighting the importance of addressing gaps and aligning diverse organisational priorities.
The session brought together professionals from various sectors, providing a collaborative platform to share experiences and insights.
A key takeaway was the need to combat misinformation, which often obscures the tangible benefits of sustainability initiatives.

Disability Awareness Week
In the second week, we highlighted our commitment to accessibility and inclusivity, to better support people with disabilities (PwDs) via digital campaigns on our social media.
This initiative was echoed in our support of Standard Chartered's observance of the Purple Tuesday movement. |

Purple Tuesday with Standard Chartered
This week, our Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) Network supported Standard Chartered's Purple Tuesday movement. The initiative advocates for better accessibility for persons with disabilities (PwDs), while showcasing how inclusive practices foster business growth by broadening customer bases and enriching workplace culture.
Standard Chartered demonstrated its commitment to accessibility by addressing the movement’s three core pillars—People, Place, and Policy & Process.
- People: Shafika Pabir from the Enabling Academy, Yayasan Gamuda shared efforts in providing equal opportunity and career training to PwD employees
- Place: Amirol Sazuan, a senior officer at Standard Chartered, spoke about his experience as a wheelchair user and highlighted the bank's ongoing efforts to make their facilities more accessible.
- Policy & Process: Florence Tan from PwC and Dr Naziaty Mohd Yaacob, Founder of ZaSve Universal Design spoke on systemic advancements needed to integrate accessibility into modern infrastructure and organisational frameworks.
The event spotlighted Standard Chartered's commitment to ensuring that their workplace is not only a place that accepts their disabled employees but offers them equal opportunities for career growth. It provided a great platform for Standard Chartered to honour disabled members of their workforce, including employees who were wheelchair users, hard of hearing (HoH), and neurodivergent. |

YTL Construction Supports Gender Gap Surveys by LeadWomen and Asia School of Business |
|
|
|
YTL Construction was recently approached by LeadWomen to support employee surveys that study the gender gap in corporate Malaysia. |
|
|
The study is called Mind The Gap and seeks to collect sex-disaggregated data to fill this knowledge gap and supply actionable insights and drive better diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) practices.
The study is broken down into 2 main surveys: - HR statistics: 5 simple questions on the composition of your workforce by gender
- Employee experiences: A 15-minute individual survey on the experiences of both male and female employees
Some benefits of participating in this study: - A free organisational gender gap report: LeadWomen will compile the responses for your Employee Survey into a report and provide a free 1-hour consultation. If you are interested, they will provide you with a personalised link.
- Discounts on programmes: Should your organisation complete both surveys, LeadWomen would be happy to offer discounts to our signature programmes.
- Perks for employees: All participants who complete the Employee Survey will receive a complimentary mental health screening and discounts on childcare services by our partners.
Both surveys are completely anonymous and data is analysed without any identifying information. The information collected will be stored in the HIPPA-compliant, Qualtrics-secure database which can only be accessed by Professor Wang Yi Ren from Asia School of Business. |

Rockwood Furniture | Reclaimed Teak and Sustainable Furniture Making |
|
|
|
Our new member, Rockwood Furniture, shares the unique qualities of their products and the history of their brand.
"At Rockwood Furniture, we made a conscious decision about 8 years ago that we were going to convert our business to being as sustainable as we could possibly make it. |
|
|
"As a small local business, we have to balance a few things in this process including the taste and preferences of our customers as well as the ongoing economic struggles of running a small business.
"That being said, we knew that the easiest thing we could do was to switch as much of our material sourcing from plantation teak to reclaimed teak. This meant finding new suppliers and learning how to work with slightly different materials but the journey has been rewarding and we are now proud to say that the overwhelming majority of our products are made from reclaimed teak."
