Executive Director Jennifer Lopez caught up with Managing Director of Sports Direct MST Sdn Bhd, Paul Gibbons, who have upgraded to become a Sterling member. Sports Direct was recognised as the UK-Malaysia Business of the Year at the BMCC's 2nd Annual Business Excellence Awards this year. Founded as a single store in 1982, Sports Direct International plc is today the UK's largest sporting goods retailer by revenue, operating a diversified portfolio of sports, fashion and luxury fascias, with 26,500 people across 20 countries. |

The BMCC paid a visit to long-time Sterling member InvestKL last week to explore future collaborations for 2020. Greeting Jennifer Lopez, Mohd Rohazwan and Cliff Bebb, (Deputy Director of Trade and Investment, DIT) were Pauline Goh (Director, Alliances) and Gyatri Jaydas (Manager, Alliances). InvestKL is a government Investment Promotion Agency mandated to attract Fortune 500 and Forbes 2000 type multinational companies to establish their regional hubs and undertake regional activities in Greater Kuala Lumpur. |

We also paid a visit to Dhayalan Visuvanathan, General Manager of Johnson Matthey, a Large Corporate member of the BMCC. Johnson Matthey is a global leader in sustainable technologies, applying cutting-edge science to create solutions to enable cleaner air, improved heath and more efficient use of our planets natural resources. In the automotive market, one in every three new cars carries an emission control catalyst from JM. Toxic carbon monoxide and unburned hydrocarbons go in to the catalyst, producing clean air instead. JM's catalysts stop around 20 million tonnes of pollutants in their tracks every year. Ross Hunter, Executive Director of the UK-ASEAN Business Council (UKABC) visited the BMCC to discuss opportunities for UK businesses in Malaysia and plans to strengthen collaborations between the UKABC and BMCC towards providing enhance market entry support for UK companies into Malaysia. The UKABC is the leading UK-based organisation promoting trade and investment between the UK and ASEAN's dynamic markets. Recently in November, UKABC organised a business briefing on Malaysia with Tony Pua MP, Political Secretary to the Malaysian Finance Minister where he provided a macroeconomic overview with insight into the recently announced budget 2020 and the future direction of the Malaysian economy.
