UK Delegation to Sarawak
From 7 to 9 January last week, the BMCC represented by Executive Director Jennifer Lopez was part of a UK delegation to Sarawak, together with the Department for International Trade (DIT) and the Scottish Development International (SDI).
Led by High Commissioner Charles Hay, our meetings included visits to Sarawak Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari, Minister of Transport, Sarawak Datuk Lee Kim Shin as well as the Chairman and the CEO of the Sarawak Economic Development Corporation.
The broad purpose of the delegation was to understand ways in which the UK can support the state government of Sarawak in its development. For the BMCC, its main objective in participating was to scope and better understand the business environment in Sarawak, as well as the various investment and trade opportunities for our members and exporting UK companies. |
|
The delegation included focus meetings led by DIT, SDI and the BMCC respectively. Together, we met with the Ministry of Infrastructure and Port Development in Kuching and the CEO of Sarawak Metro. We were also delighted to catch up with some of our members in East Malaysia, which include MIDA on overall investment opportunities, Sunway College on the educational landscape and Serba Dinamik to gain insights on the energy sector in Sarawak.
Collectively, various matters of mutual interests were discussed, including education and TVET, port developments and transportation, from rails, roads and airports, to green energy and smart cities, tourism and the digital economy. |
