Malaysians allowed to withdraw RM500 monthly from EPF to buy essential goods, PM announces

PUTRAJAYA, March 23 — Malaysians are now allowed to withdraw a maximum of RM500 monthly from their Employee Provident Fund (EPF) to buy essential goods amid the worsening Covid-19 pandemic, Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin announced today.

Muhyiddin said all Malaysians aged 55 and below are eligible to withdraw from their EPF Account Two for a period over 12 months.

“This initiative worth RM40 billion in withdrawals is expected to benefit almost 12 million EPF users with application set to open up beginning April 1,” he said in a special press conference at the Prime Minister’s Office here." (Source: MalayMail)
 
Unofficial summary of initiatives announced by PM as of 1.15pm on 23 March

  1. KWSP/Employee Provident Fund (Reduction in deduction, Application to withdraw from Account 2: RM 500/mth for up to 12 months for those who are below 55years old, To support daily necessities of food and utilities)
  2. RM500million to Ministry of Health from central government to support procurement of ventilators, PPE, lab facilities and other critical essentials. RM100million to MOH for 2,000 contracted workers, mainly nurses.
  3. RM130million to state governments to help with small business owners, victims and families and also civil servants involved in assisting with the crisis of COVID-19
  4. Defer payments for PTPTN loan (education loan) for 3-6months up to 21 September.
  5. National Security Council will monitor and decide on 30 March if MCO will be further extended beyond 31 March

2. Ministry of Finance - Updated FAQ on Procurement, IRB, Bank Negara
The latest FAQ by the Ministry of Finance related to the Movement Control Order covers the following:

  • Agency procurement of hand sanitisers and face masks
  • Procurement Contracts & Extensions
  • Force Majeure clause
  • Invoicing & Payments of procured items

  • Customs Appeal Tribunal

3. Ministry of Foreign Affairs - New FAQ on Foreign Delegates and Permanent Residents
The latest FAQ by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs related to the Movement Control Order covers the following:

  • Restrictions to domestic travel
  • Foreign Delegates and protection by local police
  • Private security and essential services
  • Malaysians with Permanent Resident statuses overseas
  • Restriction exemptions for flight crew
  • Continuity of hotels, public transport, e-hailing

4. Ministry of Home Affairs - New FAQ and Media Release on PDRM, Social Visit Pass, etc.
