British Chambers of Commerce (BCC): Coronavirus Business Impact Tracker
The British Chambers of Commerce Coronavirus Impacts Tracker (CBIT) is the UK's largest independent business survey tracking economic conditions on a weekly basis. In the third tranche of data collection (8-10 April 2020), more than 700 businesses responded. 97% of the respondents were SME's, 75% were in the service sector, and 25% were manufacturers.

| MITI has released its most recent FAQs for companies applying to operate during the Movement Control Order. These FAQs cover applications, Customers and Suppliers list, Workers list, allowed sectors and more.

| 2. MITI: Steps to Submit Appeal to Operate During MCO |
| For companies whose applications to operate during phase 3 of the MCO have been rejected, MITI has enabled a platform for appeals.
If your company's application status to continue operations is stated as' new' you can update the information. Attention: LIMITED TO 'new' application only.
MITI has also created a video tutorial to assist companies with the application through their CIMS 2.0 system.

| 3. Ministry of Transport: 4th Phase of Port Cargo Release Begins 20-23 April |
| The fourth phase of the port clearing exercise will be held April 20-23 to ensure the smooth running of the country’s major ports and the space capacity are at an optimum level, said Transport Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong.
The cargo release is vital to ensure uninterrupted supply of necessities to the people during the third phase of the Movement Control Order period, from April 15-28, he said in a statement [on April 17]
“The ministry will continue to monitor movements at the country’s major ports, and would make the decision to release the cargoes as and when it is necessary, according to the latest developments,” Wee said.

| 4. MATRADE: Survey on Impacts of COVID-19 on Malaysia's Exports |
| For Malaysian Exporters: MATRADE invites your company to participate in a survey on 'Impacts of COVID-19 on Malaysia's Exports'. The survey intends to gauge how Malaysian exporters are affected by the crisis and how they foresee their future plans to revive exports.
The survey takes place from 20 -24 April and is open to Malaysian Companies that are currently exporting. Answers given will be treated in confidentiality and will be used to analyse the effects of COVID-19 and Movement Control Order (MCO) on Malaysian exporters.
Analysis from the survey will help MATRADE devise export action plans and make policy recommendations to the Government to assist the Malaysian exporting community.

| 5. Immigration Department of Malaysia: Reminder Notification - Requirements on Expatriate Projection Application |
| Please be informed that companies registered in the Expatriate Services Division (ESD) online portal will need to ensure that their company details have been updated before the projection application of expatriates for Employment Pass (EP) and Professional Visit Pass (PVP) to avoid application to be returned due to incomplete/outdated information.
Please take note that decision for your projection request will be made within 5-10 working days. Hence, please plan and apply ahead of time to avoid any delay in the submission of your applications due to pending/unavailability of projection approval.

Covid-19: Experiences, optimism of University of Nottingham Malaysia - by Prof. Graham Kendall
"The Higher Education sector in Malaysia is facing a significant challenge in the form of Covid-19. The University of Nottingham Malaysia (UNM) is no different and it is certainly the biggest challenge we have faced since becoming the first UK university to establish a foreign branch campus in Malaysia 20 years ago. UNM set up a task force in early February, when Malaysia had started recording single digit cases of Covid-19.
This task force continues to meet regularly, now online, to ensure that all precautionary measures are being taken for the well-being of staff, students and the university."

Face Shield Production | Design & Technology
Head of DT – Mr Andrew Mason, was eager to lend his skills to help in the fight against Covid-19 this has resulted in the successful manufacture of face shields for front line doctors and nurses at the local hospital.
Mr Mason has been working hard to design a face shield, which would be cheap, mostly reusable/sterilizable and importantly gain NHS (UK) accreditation in due course. There are many models available but all supplies are very low. Having contacted the local hospital in Johor directly and getting official permission to work on the project, Mr Mason started the process in earnest.

MIDA: Approved Investments In The Manufacturing, Services and Primary Sectors in 2019 Totalled RM207.9 Billion
Against the backdrop of a challenging external environment and declining global FDI inflows, Malaysia remains resilient and attracted a total of RM207.9 billion of approved investments in the manufacturing, services and primary sectors in 2019, a 1.7 per cent increase, compared to 2018. With a contribution of 60.4 per cent (RM125.5 billion), domestic direct investment (DDI) accounted for the bulk of the total approved investments. Although FDI made up for 39.6 per cent (RM82.4 billion) of the total, the value of FDI in 2019 had increased by 2.9 per cent from the previous year.

Shell Sends Equipment to Hospitals
As part of their support for our nation’s frontliners battling the COVID-19 outbreak, Shell Malaysia has started a series of outreach initiatives aimed at lessening the challenges faced by our Malaysian heroes. Hand sanitizers, mineral water, food and beverages are just some of a long list of essential items contributed to medical personnel at Hospital Sungai Buloh, Hospital Kuala Lumpur, and Hospital Raja Permaisuri Bainun in Ipoh. Additionally, Shell stations across Malaysia have donated essential items to frontliners and local communities, such as electricity for lamps and fans to temporary tents, as well as food and drinks to local authorities.
