Recap: Chairman's Virtual Town Hall Session
Our Chairman Abrar A. Anwar, hosted BMCC's inaugural virtual Town Halls on 9 October 2020 to meet and dialogue with BMCC members. Two sessions were held; one with Large and Sterling members and another one exclusively for members in SME category. The Chairman started the sessions by giving an overview of the current economic climate and COVID-19's impact on the general business environment vis-à-vis to BMCC, emphasising the chamber's key focus during these unprecedented times is to stay engaged with its members and continue to deliver the right value to members. Abrar also highlighted some of BMCC's efforts in adapting to the new normal such as utilising digital platforms for webinars, creating platforms for members to promote and profile, virtual meetings as well as advocacy and supporting members on government SOPs during the MCO. The Chairman took the opportunity to share areas that the Chamber would be focusing on such as digital, sustainability and green efforts as well as support for SMEs in 2021. The Chairman also reiterated the importance for members to provide feedbacks and views to ensure initiatives taken by the Chamber remain relevant to members.
BMCC Chairman and the Executive Director, Jennifer Lopez as the host thanked members for their participation, sharing thoughts and suggestions for collaborations. BMCC hopes that this Town Hall will be a regular feature for members to interact and provide feedback.

Congratulations, Mr. Andrew Sill MBE!
The BMCC would like to wish a heartiest and warmest congratulation to our former Chairman, Andrew Sill, on being conferred with an MBE by Her Majesty The Queen for his services to foster stronger UK-Malaysia business relations.
Appointed as BMCC Chairman in 2015, Andrew, a British national residing in Malaysia has remained crucially instrumental in the transformative changes of the Chamber during his 5 years tenure. His pivotal contributions included seeing the transition of Chamber from a registered Society to a Company Limited by Guarantee. This, in tandem with his vision for a Chamber that remains perpetually engaged with the business community and government has led to the establishments of sector committees and working groups. The Chamber now has a greater focus on business-based initiatives, which has proven to be a valuable undertaking appreciated by our members.
Under his Chairmanship, the BMCC has notably organised two highly successful Business Excellence Awards, a unique platform designed to acknowledge the contribution of and elevate the profile of companies and individuals who have championed British brands in Malaysia. The Awards is also an important platform to recognise and demonstrate the importance and strengthen of UK-Malaysia bilateral trade and investment relationships.
Andrew has also represented the Chamber and the interests of the British-Malaysian business community on both regional and international levels. In 2018, he led a trade delegation to the Commonwealth Business Forum in London, represented by over 20 private and governmental organisations. Andrew also represented the BMCC at regional meetings organised by BiSEA (Britain in SouthEast Asia), convened by the heads of British Chambers across ASEAN, who come together to discuss and promote collaboration for the benefit of UK businesses in ASEAN.
Over the years, Andrew has overseen the continuous success of BMCC in Malaysia and the region.
Congratulations, once again for a well-deserved recognition, from all of us at BMCC.
