Recap: IGEM 2020 (19 – 23 October 2020) - BMCC UK PAVILION
The BMCC in association with the Department for International Trade, UK participated in the virtual IGEM (International Green Tech and Eco-Products Conference and Exhibition Malaysia) 2020, by hosting a virtual UK Pavilion showcasing British expertise in green technology and solutions. IGEM 2020 with the theme Energising Sustainability, organised by the Ministry of Environment and Water (KASA) and the Malaysian Green Technology and Climate Change Centre (MGTC) offered multiple business-matching opportunities, seminars, conferences and pocket talks, with participation from 17 countries.
Companies exhibiting under the BMCC UK Pavilion included Ecosolus Limited, Logan Energy, Mura Technology Limited, Technical Waste Services Limited and Telensa.
The British High Commission, Kuala Lumpur also took up a microsite in the virtual pavilion to promote initiatives and efforts by the UK Government to combat climate change. Under UK’s Presidency of COP26, the UK is committed to working with countries, civil society and industry to scale-up climate ambition and tackle climate change.
The BMCC is proud to participate in IGEM 2020, showcasing UK green technology companies as well as supporting the UK Government Climate Change initiatives. We would like to thank all our exhibitors and partners – the Department for International Trade, UK and British High Commission for this collaboration. Congratulations to the organisers of IGEM 2020 – KASA and MGTC for a successful exhibition and conference!

Study in the UK with Chevening 2021/22
Applications for Chevening Scholarships and some Chevening Fellowships are now open. The deadline to submit your completed application is 3 November 2020 at 12:00 (midday) GMT.
This scholarship has no age limit, can be awarded for any Masters course of 1 year’s length and are open to all Malaysians with an undergraduate degree and 2 years of work experience (including internships, part-time work and volunteering work).
Applications for the 2021/2022 academic year started 3 September 2020 and will close 3 November 2020.

CMCO in KL, Selangor, Putrajaya to be Extended
The Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO) implemented in Kuala Lumpur, Selangor and Putrajaya will be extended for another 14 days. Supposedly scheduled to end tomorrow, Senior Defense Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob announced the extension today based on recommendation from the Ministry of Health of Malaysia. The second phase of CMCO will end 9 Nov 2020.

ANNOUNCEMENT OF TEMPORARY MEASURES FOR REDUCING THE IMPACT OF CORONAVIRUS DISEASE 2019 (COVID-19) ACT 2020
The Federal Government has enacted the Temporary Measures For Reducing The Impact Of Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) Act 2020, as an effort to support individuals and businesses that have been economically affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
The act has been gazetted on 23 October 2020 last week, upon the consent of His Majesty the Yang di-Pertuan Agong in accordance with Article 66 of the Federal Constitution and will be enforced for two (2) years from the date it was gazetted on 23 October 2020 in the Government Gazette (Warta Kerajaan) or as the date and validity period in any part of the provision of this Act.

FAQ ON THE CONDITIONAL MOVEMENT CONTROL ORDER (CMCO)
MITI has published a Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) on the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO) and Work From Home (WFH) instructions as measures to reduce risk transmission of COVID-19 infection in CMCO areas.

Memorandum For Consultative Session With Ministry Of International Trade And Industry
BMCC would like to gather inputs from businesses through a memorandum on the issues and challenges faced by the industry pertaining to the policies of MITI, along with suggestions for improvement.
The received feedbacks will be deliberated further in the dialogue session with Senior Minister of MITI which will be held in early 2021. The session will focus on ways to further improve the Federal Government public delivery system.

London super-prime property sales increased despite pandemic
The Knight Frank Super-Prime Market Insight – Autumn 2020 released recently revealed the latest data on the London super-prime property market, which shows that more money has been spent on £10 million-plus properties this year than 2019, despite the lockdown.
Dominic Heaton-Watson (in photo), Associate Director, International Residential Project Marketing, Knight Frank Malaysia, commented: “The 16% year-on-year (January – August) increase in London’s super-prime residential market, also corresponds with the higher levels of enquiries seen from our Malaysia-based clients. Despite all the concerns of COVID-19 in global markets, London remains the top overseas property investment destination for Malaysia given its broad-based economy, transparent legal system, culture & heritage and world-class education facilities".
