ASEAN Cross-Border ESG Collaboration Unlocked! Malaysia, Indonesia, and Thailand's Stock Exchanges Signed MoU To Spur ESG |
Malaysia's stock exchange Bursa Malaysia Bhd signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX), and the Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) to establish an inter-regional Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) ecosystem to promote sustainability within the ASEAN region. |
"Through this collaboration, our objective is to enhance cross-border cooperation and seize opportunities to align ESG standards and infrastructure that promote sustainable business practices within ASEAN. This MoU lays the groundwork for similar partnerships with other interested exchanges in Asia and sets a solid foundation for engaging partners from the Global North as well."
Datuk Muhamad Umar Swift CEO of Bursa Malaysia |
The collaboration aims to: - Spur the adoption of ESG practices and drive responsible growth in their respective markets.
- Offer cross-border ESG investment opportunities.
- Identify critical components of ESG infrastructure for decarbonisation and sustainability across supply chains.
- Create a "sandbox" environment for trade and create new business opportunities for corporations and their supply chains, including SMEs.
- Enhance ESG expertise through workshops, training sessions, and knowledge-sharing programmes.
We applaud this cross-border partnership between Bursa Malaysia, IDX, and SET, and we look forward to what this partnership blooms and are ever ready to contribute to the growth of sustainable practices and partnerships in the region. Together, let us foster a brighter, more sustainable future for all. |

Sarawak Energy Commits to Low Carbon and Advances on Exploring Hydrogen |
Sarawak is fast-tracking its move to a low-carbon economy by embracing hydrogen energy across various sectors, including healthcare and transportation, aligning with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDGs) via its sustainable Sarawak blueprint, as stated by Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg. |
Sarawak is actively promoting green mobility through electric buses, the Autonomous Rail Transit (ART) project, and EV charging stations in Kuching. Premier Abang Johari at SAREF 3.0, stressed Sarawak's commitment to carbon capture and environmental sustainability, citing legislation alignment and collaborations like the Chitose Carbon Capture Central Sarawak. |
Sarawak has committed to no new coal power plants, with the 600MW Balingian plant commissioned in 2021, being the last. The focus now is on renewable energy, especially hydropower, with a fourth project in Baleh under construction.
Sarawak's electricity sector targets for the next decade include: - Maintaining at least 60% renewable energy capacity by 2030.
- Reducing carbon emissions by 600,000 tonnes annually by electrifying the mobility fleet by 2030.
- Achieving over 15% income from foreign markets, including power exports.
Additionally, the state plans to launch its first floating solar farm at the Batang Ai hydroelectric plant in 2024. |

Malaysia Airlines | Stepping Toward Sustainability with First eGPU |
The Malaysia Aviation Group has introduced the country's first Electric Ground Power Unit (eGPU) as part of their Electronic Ground Support Equipment (eGSE) initiative. |
This sustainable eGPU replaces traditional non-diesel-powered units and aims to make the Malaysian aviation industry more eco-friendly by providing electricity to aircraft while on the ground without using fossil fuels.
The eGPU reduces 50,000kgs of CO2 emissions and minimises noise compared to diesel GPUs. The eGSE infrastructure will first be developed at Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport (Subang Airport) before expanding to KLIA, marking a significant step toward sustainability in aviation.

According to the Head of Sustainability at YTL Cement, Clarisse Loh, the journey to sustainable construction should begin with the end in mind. This allows for holistic solutions to eventually lead to the achievement of the goal.
