Malaysia is undergoing a significant shift in data governance by revising the Personal Data Protection Act 2010 and its associated regulations. According to Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo, the emphasis on cybersecurity has become an immediate priority due to the rapid technological advancements contributing to increased cyber threats.

The Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC), a government agency under the Ministry of Digital, has introduced the Malaysia Digital (MD) initiative. This national strategic effort aims to succeed the Multimedia Super Corridor (MSC) and addresses key challenges in the current digital transformation landscape.

The MD initiative, aligned with the Malaysia Digital Economy Blueprint, offers a more flexible company status and benefits, including enhanced tax incentives, a refreshed Bill of Guarantees (BoG), and diverse locations for nationwide business operations.

Under the MD initiative, new catalytic digital projects are introduced through the PeMangkinMD programme, clustered across various sectors such as Digital Trade, Tourism, Agriculture, and Manufacturing. These projects leverage technologies like Artificial Intelligence (AI), Blockchain, Cloud, 5G, and Robotics to enhance industry capabilities and innovation.

Various MD programmes, including eUsahawan (Digital Entrepreneurship), have collectively trained over half a million entrepreneurs, with a noteworthy emphasis on women entrepreneurs. This effort is crucial for fostering a dynamic, inclusive, and robust digital economy in Malaysia.

In the realm of digital government transformation, Gobind emphasised that an effective digital government goes beyond policies; it also involves the tangible delivery of services. This holistic approach ensures that the digital landscape not only adheres to regulations but also actively serves the needs of the public.

We congratulate the 38 Malaysians who successfully completed their Master's degree in the UK under the Chevening Awards Programme! 

Chevening is the UK government's international scholarship programme. Funded by the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office and partner organisations, we offer awards to study in the UK for one year on a fully funded master's degree course. 

We can't wait to see how these graduates realise our country's potential. 

Tengku Zafrul highlighted the urgency by citing the electrical and electronics industry's need for 50,000 engineers, while local institutions only produce 5,000 graduates annually. Emphasising the specific skills required by industries like artificial intelligence (AI), he stressed that foreign graduates are a suitable choice, given their understanding of the local work culture.
