Navigating Change: The Mid-Term Review of 12MP Unveiled |
|
Dear Subscriber,
Today we bring you the latest updates on the Mid-Term Review (MTR) of the 12th Malaysia Plan (12MP), offering fresh insights into the nation's development.
About the 12th Malaysia Plan (12MP) Initially approved in Parliament on 21 October 21 2021, the 12MP unfolded amidst economic challenges, witnessing a 5.5% GDP contraction in 2020, but had a promising rebound of 3.3% growth in 2021. The plan allocated a staggering RM400 billion for development projects over five years.
Achievements and Progress During the first two years (2021-2022), the government achieved an average GDP growth of 5.9% per year, making significant strides towards its objectives. Of the 175 set targets, 31% have been realised and 59% are progressing as scheduled. |

The MTR 12MP introduces new policies and methods. While the original 12MP focused on "Prosperous, Inclusive, Sustainable," the MTR 12MP aims for a "Civilized Malaysia: Sustainable, Prosperous, and High Income." |

Financial Commitment: The government is committed to allocating at least RM90 billion annually between 2023 and 2025, utilising the full RM400 billion allocation under the 12MP, with an additional RM15 billion for priority areas and subsidy reallocation.
Bridging the Gaps The MTR 12MP addresses extreme poverty, infrastructure deficiencies, and fundamental needs, including improvements in schools, clinics, and clean water supply.
17 Big Bolds The MTR 12MP identified 17 Big Bolds to catalyse the socioeconomic development in the remaining period. As shown below: |

While the scale of economic planning remains substantial, it is anticipated that the MTR 12MP will encompass projects worth billions, with substantial allocations directed to the people through various means. However, given the current economic climate and the government's fiscal constraints, the pace of project implementation remains a subject of scrutiny.
The BMCC fully supports the Malaysian government's efforts in implementing this plan and stands ready to actively participate in fostering economic growth alongside the 12MP review.

This time around, the committee focused on discussions to improve the education committee initiatives in alignment with our four membership pillars of services, referencing past achievements to develop future opportunities.
