A New Chapter Begins For Her Excellency Ailsa Terry CMG BMCC Welcomes The New British High Commissioner To Malaysia |
|
We are delighted to share the news of the arrival of Her Excellency Ailsa Terry CMG, the British High Commissioner-designate to Malaysia, along with her family, in Kuala Lumpur. |
|
|
H.E. Ailsa embarked on her new role at the British High Commission on 10 August with excitement and anticipation for the burgeoning UK-Malaysia relationship.
One of H.E. Ailsa's aspirations is to further fortify the bilateral trade ties between the two nations. With the recent culmination of the first-ever Free Trade Agreement between the UK and Malaysia under the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP), signed just last month, the stage is set for mutually beneficial collaboration.
Reflecting on her new appointment, H.E. Ailsa expressed her enthusiasm, stating:
"I am thrilled to be in Malaysia, a beautiful and diverse country with an enduring and significant relationship with the UK. This is a momentous period for both the UK and Malaysia, as we cultivate a contemporary partnership founded on our shared interests. With an exceptional team to collaborate with, I am excited about the possibilities."
“Building on the strong connections between our people, and our shared history and values as fellow Commonwealth members, I believe there is huge potential for the UK and Malaysia to work more closely together to boost our trade, education and tech relationship, tackle the climate emergency and uphold the international rules-based system. There are also opportunities to strengthen our defence partnership including through the Five Power Defence Arrangements (FPDA)."
"Malaysia is a global biodiversity hotspot and our UK-Malaysia Climate Partnership Memorandum of Understanding will enable us to work more closely together. I also look forward to working with Malaysia on important issues affecting regional security, stability and prosperity especially during the Malaysian chairmanship of ASEAN in 2025.” |
|
H.E. Ailsa brings to this position a wealth of experience. She was formerly the Director of the FCDO’s inaugural Sanctions Directorate from 2022 to 2023, which she established as part of the UK’s response to Russia’s illegal invasion of Ukraine.
Prior to that, she was the Foreign Affairs Sous-Sherpa and Director in the UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) for the UK’s Presidency of the G7 in 2021. She also worked in the National Security Secretariat in the Cabinet Office which supports the work of the UK National Security Council.
During her time in the British diplomatic service, she was posted to Islamabad and the UK Mission to the European Union (EU) in Brussels. H.E. Ailsa was also the Political Adviser to the EU Special Representative to Afghanistan in 2011. Outside of her diplomatic commitments, H.E. Ailsa cherishes time spent with her family, including her husband Adam Terry and their twin sons. She also enjoys reading, cooking, and spending time outdoors with her family.
As H.E. Ailsa settles in her role as the British High Commissioner-designate to Malaysia, we the BMCC stand ready to provide our unwavering support. We are excited to witness the evolution of the UK-Malaysia partnership under her leadership. |
