The British Malaysian Chamber of Commerce Celebrates New Office in TRX
image
The BMCC is proud to announce the inaugural opening of our office in TRX!

Our office's relocation not only aims to enhance the Chamber's brand profile, but also reaffirm our mandate to advocate and strengthen trade and investment relations between the UK and Malaysia. TRX stands as a testament to Malaysia's ambitious vision to position itself as a global financial hub - a vision that aligns seamlessly with the Chamber's commitment to fostering stronger business ties and cultivating economic growth.

image
image
The BMCC has served as a loyal catalyst to providing British and Malaysian businesses with networking opportunities, knowledge exchange, and bilateral trading assistance for more than 60 years. From our new location, we affirm our role as a proponent for regional development and an advocate for Malaysia's economic resilience.
In 2023, the bilateral trade between both countries soared to RM17.3 billion (USD3.79 billion). Malaysia esteemed the UK as its 21st global trading partner, while the UK positioned Malaysia as its 41st. The imminent ratification of the CPTPP by the UK marks a significant milestone, as it will be the first free trade agreement between our nations.

"Additionally, the establishment of a Joint Economic and Trade Committee, co-chaired by our respective Ministers and scheduled for later this year, underscores our commitment to fortifying economic ties. With these advancements, Malaysia is optimistic that our bilateral trade and investment relations will attain unprecedented heights in the near future."

 - YB Liew Chin Tong, Deputy Minister of MITI

"The Chamber’s move into the green and modern office at TRX will support efforts to provide even better services to their members, and ultimately support the growth of our bilateral trade and creating economic benefits for both our countries

- Her Excellency Ailsa Terry CMG, British High Commissioner to Malaysia
We would also like to extend a special thank you to Martin Haeger and his team at HL Design for undertaking this project and for providing Architect & Interior Design support; the PMCC team for Project Management; ARUP team for MEP Consultancy; and Turner & Townsend team as our Quantity Surveyors. Lastly, kudos to the BMCC executive office team, led by our CEO, Jennifer Lopez.
"With the BMCC’s relocation, we not only enhance the Chamber's brand profile but also reaffirm our mandate to advocate and strengthen trade and investment relations between the UK and Malaysia,

"Our presence in TRX signifies our dedication to showcasing Malaysia's state-of-the-art infrastructure and facilities, serving as a gateway to ASEAN for British businesses seeking to expand their footprint in the region."

image
The Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) has announced that effective 24 April 2024, all new and renewal applications for Employment Pass (EP) under the purview of MDEC must be submitted through Xpats Gateway.
MDEC’s onboarding on Xpats Gateway is in line with the Malaysian government’s efforts to standardise the support mechanism of all approving agencies/regulatory bodies into a single platform. Previously, companies registered with MDEC under Malaysia Digital (MD) or ICT status did not require any additional approving agency support mechanism given that MDEC’s eXpat portal is already integrated with the Malaysian immigration authority’s system.
