Malaysian Green Investments Skyrocket in Green Economy Report |
|
The report, produced by Bain & Company, Standard Chartered, GenZero, and Temasek, answers key questions about Southeast Asia's green transition and trajectory.
Investment Growth Year-on-Year Surge: Green investments have skyrocketed by 326% to reach US$1.03 billion in 2023. Regional Impact: Malaysia's investments accounted for 16% of total green investments in Southeast Asia.
Investment Trends Focus Areas: While power, particularly renewables, remained a primary focus, there was a noticeable increase in investments in green data centres. Driving Factors: Energy efficiency regulations in Malaysia and Singapore propelled investments in green data centres.
Notable Projects GDS Holdings Bhd: Investing US$280 million in a data centre at Nusajaya Tech Park. YTL Power International Bhd: Constructing a US$250 million data centre in Kulai.
Recommendations to Accelerate the Green Economy - Drive the deployment of blended finance.
- Further develop regulations on renewables.
- Maintain momentum within industrial parks.
National Initiatives Catalytic Fund: Malaysia allocated US$430 million for blended finance, focusing on industrial clusters in Sarawak and Johor.
Policy Recommendations Lifting Bans: Malaysia lifted bans on renewable energy exports, signalling a commitment to fostering a green economy. Regional Cooperation: Sarawak and Johor should implement policies to attract private investments and promote eco-industrial park formation.
The Southeast Asia's Green Economy 2024 Report underscores Malaysia's progress towards sustainability while highlighting areas for continued growth. Collaboration, investment, and policy development are key to realising Malaysia's green economy vision.

BMCC Energy Committee's Courtesy Call to President and CEO of TNB |

In alignment with this report that brings Malaysia's commitment to sustainability to the forefront, the BMCC also paid a courtesy call to Datuk Ir. Megat Jalaluddin Megat Hassan, the new President and CEO of Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB). We extended our congratulations on his recent appointment and discussed his plans for Malaysia's future in energy.
Our delegation was led by Jennifer Lopez, CEO of BMCC and Azman Nasir, Chair of the Energy Committee. We had a productive roundtable discussion with Datuk Ir. Megat and his team. |

Malaysia Edges closer to Renewable Energy Exports with Establishment of Enegem |
|

The Malaysian government has agreed to establish the Energy Exchange Malaysia (Enegem) to facilitate cross-border sales of green electricity to neighbouring countries.
The Energy Transition and Water Transformation Ministry, in a statement issued here today, said the setting up of Enegem is in line with Malaysia’s energy transition aspiration and commitment to support regional power integration via the ASEAN Power Grid Initiative (APG).
