Bursa Malaysia Joins Collaboration on ASEAN-Interconnected Sustainability Ecosystem |
|
Bursa Malaysia Bhd, the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX), the Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET), and the Singapore Exchange (SGX Group) have collaboratively launched the ASEAN-Interconnected Sustainability Ecosystem (ASEAN-ISE). |
|
|
This initiative aims to propel sustainable development in ASEAN by implementing shared environmental, social, and governance (ESG) metrics across their data infrastructures. Bursa Malaysia will act as the ASEAN-ISE Secretariat, overseeing the successful execution of the project.
Collaborative Objectives The participating exchanges, including Bursa Malaysia, have outlined the goals of the ASEAN-ISE initiative. These objectives focus on establishing an integrated ESG ecosystem to drive sustainable development in ASEAN. Additionally, the collaboration seeks to provide participating exchanges with economies of scale, fostering cost efficiency and faster time-to-market through tailored solutions.
Outcome-Driven Collaboration In a joint statement, the participating exchanges have committed to outcome-driven collaboration deliverables, considering local factors and market maturity levels. A pivotal aspect of the initiative involves the adoption and implementation of ' ASEAN Exchanges Common ESG Metrics' in the ESG reporting platforms of the participating exchanges. This move underscores their dedication to harmonising sustainability reporting practices.
Bursa Malaysia's Perspective Bursa Malaysia's CEO, Datuk Muhamad Umar Swift, expressed alignment with the exchange's intention to broaden participation across ASEAN and beyond. He envisions an open and inclusive ecosystem, where participating exchanges operate with trust in a fundamentally aligned data infrastructure. The goal is to provide cost-efficient, modular-based solutions tailored to specific market needs and conditions.
Implementation Timeline The participating exchanges plan to reconvene to finalise implementation details and formalise the ISE Governance Framework and Operating Structure. This significant step is scheduled to take place at the 37th ASEAN Exchanges CEOs Meeting in July 2024 in Malaysia. The framework will guide the collaborative efforts of the exchanges in promoting sustainability within the ASEAN region.
The BMCC applauds the collective effort of this initiative by ASEAN stock exchanges to drive sustainable development through standardised ESG metrics. By fostering collaboration and shared objectives, these exchanges aim to contribute to a more sustainable and interconnected financial landscape in the ASEAN region. |
