State of the Nation: How Covid Impacts College Admissions

What you will learn: Campus closings. virtual college visits, testing cancellations, SAT changes, online instruction. Each day, even every hour, brings news of an educational landscape that is rapidly shifting. Or is it? In this webinar, we will separate fact from fiction and give students and parents the information they need to make critical upcoming decisions. We’ll discuss everything from planning for tests, virtually researching colleges, and understanding what colleges are looking for. Join us for this conversation on college admissions, the power of perspective, and keeping the focus on what you can control in these challenging times.

How to Build a List & do Research Virtually

There are over 2,000 four-year colleges in the United States for students to consider. How can families identify the schools at which their student will be happiest and most successful, especially during the current time of uncertainty?

During this webinar, Collegewise counselors will share ways for attendees to evaluate the many factors that need to be considered. We will also discuss how to visit colleges virtually if it’s not possible to visit in person.

College Essays 101: How to Write a Great Essay

This session will teach families how to find and write their best stories for college essays. We’ll explain what admissions officers actually want (and don’t want) to read, reveal the five most overused essay topics on which far too many kids rely, and teach writing techniques that will help any student write more engaging and effective college essays.

Testing 101 – Test-Optional & The Academic Profile

Standardized tests like the SAT and ACT have plagued students, families, and bank accounts for decades. Our presenters will provide their insight and experience in the world of standardized testing to cover the following topics:

Appropriate testing timelines; The differences between the SAT and ACT; How to decide which test is better for your student; How colleges interpret test scores, including AP exams and SAT Subject Tests; Which test prep option (if any) is right for you

You’ll leave this webinar feeling more confident and better informed about your own testing timeline and test prep decisions.
