About the Webinar

WHY YOU SHOULD ATTEND

Our Sustainability, Built Environment & Transport, Logistics and Supply Chain Committees are excited to bring you a webinar as we explore how COVID-19 threatens global food security and supply chain whilst the threat of hunger and food insecurity remains relevant all around the world.

The pandemic triggered panic-buying, stockpiling and food protectionism, exposing an over-reliance on highly efficient supply chains.

CLIMATE CHANGE IMPACT ON FOOD SOURCES

Climate change will result in more frequent episodes of extreme weather conditions and cause further disruption to our access to essential food sources. As relying on market mechanisms and international trade doesn't seem to work as well during a global pandemic, governments and private sector suppliers will need to invest in a stronger domestic food infrastructure.

The transition to a new, sustainable, resilient and healthy food system will not only require research and innovation in growing techniques but will need close collaboration between entities throughout the food chain, from producers to consumers to waste recovery, supported by robust institutions and sound governance. Organizational, as well as national resilience, will require shorter, more local supply chains to speed up that transition.
