EGAT Joins Forces With Japanese Giants To Advance Clean Hydrogen And Ammonia Production

The Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) has embarked on a groundbreaking endeavor in collaboration with three prominent Japanese companies. Funded by the Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Industry (METI) of Japan, this initiative, known as the “Study and Development Project on Clean Hydrogen and Ammonia Production from Renewable Energy,” is set to revolutionize knowledge and technology in the field while also bolstering Thailand’s energy security and reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

Mr. Nitus Voraphonpiput, Deputy Governor – Fuel of EGAT, disclosed the pivotal nature of this project. EGAT has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with three distinguished Japanese companies: Mitsubishi Company (Thailand) Ltd., Chiyoda Corporation, and Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (Thailand) Co., Ltd. This collaboration will leverage Japan’s expertise and cutting-edge technologies to address infrastructure-related challenges abroad.

The project’s scope is comprehensive, encompassing feasibility studies on hydrogen and ammonia production. It delves into various dimensions, including engineering, the production of eco-friendly fuels from renewable energy sources, and assessments of social, environmental, and economic impacts. Additionally, the project explores aspects of storage, transportation, and the multitude of business opportunities within EGAT’s areas of interest, all while utilizing existing infrastructure.
