Standard Chartered looks forward to close collaboration with Penang

PENANG remains a very important market for Standard Chartered Bank Malaysia Berhad, says its managing director and chief executive officer Abrar A Anwar.

“Penang is where Standard Chartered started in 1875 and is a very important market for us. And Malaysia is our top 10 market in this region,” Abrar told Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow during a courtesy on the latter in Komtar today.

Abrar, who is also the chairman of the British Malaysian Chamber of Commerce, was accompanied by Mak Joon Nien (MD/Head Client Coverage, Corporate, Commercial & Institution Banking), Sammeer (Head, Consumer, Private and Business Banking) and Jensen Tong (director, financial Institutions/CCIB).

He also expressed that the bank could help bring in new ideas and showcase opportunities for growth.

Mak added that the bank has been supporting the multinational corporations and supply chain, praising the state government for its established eco-system.

Chow thanked the Standard Chartered delegation for showing a strong interest in Penang.

“Penang is still an attractive location for investments. The services sector, however, has been greatly impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic but the manufacturing sector is holding on strongly. We appreciate the bank supporting the investors,” Chow said.

He added that digitalisation would be the way forward for Penang.

“There is a lot of challenges and setting up Digital Penang is one step. And they will advise the state,” Chow said.
