British Malaysian Chamber of Commerce (BMCC)’s Post

The BMCC and 15 Malaysian civil servants participating in the JPA Management Development Programme successfully wrapped up a week of business visits across London. After these visits, the participants will start their two-week attachments in various UK companies.   We express our immense gratitude to our gracious hosts who hosted talks and led us and our participants on tours of their sites and facilities. The time spent this week was invaluable and gave us and the participants the opportunity to gain unique insights into various businesses and experiences.   We want to thank Steve Halsey, Chief Executive; Councillor Kabir Ahmed, and fellow Councillors of London Borough of Tower Hamlets for their time and tour of their building; Sheikh Aliur Rahman OBE, CEO of London Tea Exchange for a tea experience and an evening reception to celebrate his receiving of the OBE Award; and Gordon Adams and JAMES WIXLEY, Heads of Battersea Power Station, for a tour of the site.   The BMCC also thanks Unmesh Desai AM, Assembly Member for City and East (Barking & Dagenham, the City, Newham, and Tower Hamlets) for giving us a detailed understanding of the City and East and a site tour of the City Hall; and HE Dato' Zakri Jaafar, the High Commissioner of Malaysia to the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, for meeting our delegation and exchanging views on public services and current issues.   We also thank Deputy Rehana Ameer FRSA, Common Councillor for Vintry Ward, Alderman Prem Goyal OBE, and Marta Kozlowska FCIM MEI, Head of International, London Chamber of Commerce and Industry for meeting our delegation at the City of London Corporation and for a tour of the Guildhall and Art Gallery; and Anita Hughes, Managing Director, Robin Goodlet, Deputy Managing Director, and Azrain Azlan, Business Development Manager of EcoWorld Management & Advisory Services, for a tour around the Embassy Gardens at Nine Elms.   Finally, we extend our gratitude to Mei Sim Lai OBE DL, Chair of The British Malaysian Society for hosting a forum on 'Developing Sustainability-driven Leaders' at Park City Grand Plaza Kensington Hotel with speakers The Lord Leong CBE, Chief Executive of Civil Service College; Professor Kanes Rajah, Executive Director of the Centre for Executive and Professional Development London and Chairman of the Education group at BMS; Sandra Macleod FIPR, CCIM, Group CEO of Echo Research; and Dr. Yusrizam Sharifuddin, Principal Assistant Director of the National Nanotechnology Centre, Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation.   The BMCC was represented by Angelyn Ng and Asyraf Shahar.   We could not have made this the success that it was without all the people involved. We hope that the knowledge shared will inspire our gracious hosts and the programme's participants. That said, we wish them the best in their attachments, and look forward to seeing them transform into catalysts for a better future.
