Event Details

Thailand and Vietnam, all have a dedicated national smart city strategy, underpinning an Internet of Things (IoT) platform, to address living standards in an increasingly urbanised population.

In Laos, only 35% of the population live in urban areas, however this is expected to rise rapidly as the economy avails of industrial growth owing to the China-Lao railway and new speedway developments.

While Laos has yet to develop a national strategy for smart city development, the national development strategy calls for "greater integration of information and communications technology (ICT) as a tool for socio-economic development".

Now, with the opening of the first smart expressway in Laos this year, it is no longer a far stretch to imagine a 5G Laos supporting new IoT platforms alongside major rail and road arterials.

Indeed, we have panellist partner, Amata, to share how road and rail developments can be leveraged for an integrated transport, energy, trade and human services network of smart cities that can avail of the growing consumer demand in Laos' neighbouring economies – as Amata has done in Thailand, Myanmar, Vietnam and more recently explored for Laos in Oudomxai.
