The government and banks provide support for efforts to restore the tourism industry. Content-wise, President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo launched the Kharisma Event Nusantara program, a national tourism calendar for 2021 to be held in 34 provinces, which he said would attract tourists. "I hope that through this event, the tourism sector and creative economy can recover," Jokowi said.
Financing-wise, the Financial Services Authority's (OJK) Board of Commissioners Chairman Wimboh Santoso announced that state-owned banks would provide additional working capital credit for hotel, restaurant, and tourism entrepreneurs. According to Wimboh, this program has been discussed with Deputy Minister of Finance Suahasil Nazara and the president directors of state-owned banks, such as PT Bank Rakyat Indonesia Tbk (BRI), PT Bank Mandiri Tbk, PT Bank Negara Indonesia Tbk (BNI), and PT Bank Tabungan Negara Tbk (BTN). Deputy Minister of State-Owned Enterprises Kartika Wirjoatmodjo also said that state banks would write off debts or credits for tourism, hotel, and restaurant entrepreneurs, especially those in Bali, who could not do business during the COVID-19 pandemic.
