The Indonesian and Chinese governments have agreed to continue the collaboration in the COVID-19 vaccine development and production in a meeting between the Chinese Foreign Minister, Wang Yi, and the Coordinating Maritime Affairs and Investment Minister, Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan. The meeting was held in Guiyang, China, on June 5, 2021. Wang Yi said that China would help build a vaccine production center in Indonesia.

Moreover, the Indonesian government will also allow China-based vaccine manufacturers to conduct clinical trials in the country so that the vaccines produced can be used directly. "Having announced support for waiving intellectual property rights on COVID-19 vaccine, China will promote its vaccine companies in transferring technologies to other developing countries and carrying out joint production," Wang Yi said. Meanwhile, Luhut stated that Indonesia and China also agreed to strengthen cooperation in dealing with global strategic issues and challenges.
