Regional Govt Requires Factories in West Java to Install Rooftop Solar

West Java Governor Ridwan Kamil is aggressively encouraging the use of renewable energy (NRE) in his region, such as by requiring factories in the province to use rooftop solar panels (PLTS) as an energy source for their operational activities. "We are serious about the development of solar energy, one of the policies in West Java Province, we have required factories to install rooftop solar panels," Ridwan said Monday.

However, Ridwan admitted that PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) electricity oversupply is a challenge in renewable energy development. "[Electricity from renewable energy plants] has not been fully absorbed because PLN is experiencing oversupply. Therefore, this [renewable energy development] faces challenges," he said.
