Jakarta (ANTARA) - Investment Minister Bahlil Lahadalia has said that he will support investment in the country, including for smart city development.

"Moreover, the Investment Ministry and National Investment Coordinating Board is targeted by the government to generate Rp1,400 trillion in investment," he informed, according to a statement received here on Saturday.

He delivered the remarks during an event with the China Indonesia Association (INTI) and the Chinese Committee of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

The high investment target is expected to push Indonesia's economic growth beyond 5 percent, he added.

"Although the global development could be seen (declining) in recession, but we are not (speaking) in the context of recession," he said.

Minister Lahadalia also told INTI business players that his administration will assist businesses that are keen on investing.

"When I was a businessman, managing investment was difficult. I assure you that my bitter experience as a businessman will not happen (during my time) as investment minister," he said.

The Omnibus Law, through the Online Single Submission (OSS) system, has done away with 79 regulations that could impede the flow of investment, he highlighted.

"We are focusing on online single submissions. So now, making the permit is so easy," he said.

He further said that he will ensure that business players who want to invest get assistance.

INTI will collaborate with the Chinese Committee of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry as well as China ASEAN Information Harbour (CAIH) to host the “Indonesia-China Smart City Expo” from May 24 to 26, 2023, in Jakarta.

INTI Head Teddy Sugianto said that the event will feature many activities, such as an exhibition, award ceremony, and conference. It will also showcase investment opportunities and include a solution-matching forum, he added.

"We expect that this event will attract investment to Indonesia. We expect that smart city development will become a trend in other Indonesian cities," he remarked.
