Crowdsourcing turns transportation system users into real-time sensors on system performance, providing low-cost, high-quality data on traffic operations, roadway conditions, travel patterns, and more. When combined with traditional data, crowdsourcing will help agencies implement proactive strategies that improve incident detection, traffic signal retiming, road weather management, traveler information, pavement management, and other operational programs.

Agencies can make roadways safer and more reliable, improve operational efficiency, and support cost-effective monitoring through crowdsourcing for operations.

Course Objectives:

1. Broaden understanding and knowledge about how crowdsourced data can improve transportation operations.

2. Help participants consider whether specific applications of crowdsourcing may meet their organization's needs for improving transportation operations.

Target Audience:

State and local DOT executives, metropolitan planning organizations, regional mobility authorities, toll authorities, managers and operators of traffic management centers (TMCs), traffic incident management programs, traveler information programs, traffic signal systems, work zones, road weather management, maintenance programs and other agencies with traffic operations functions.
