Community Shaper to Foster Youth’s Dispositions in Innovation and Technology Development 2024

Nick Chan, BBS, MH, JP is an elected and serving Hong Kong Deputy to the National People’s Congress of the People’s Republic of China. Mr. Chan serves as the Vice Party Chairman of the Liberal Party, Chairman of the Hong Kong and Mainland Legal Profession Association and the Director of AALCO Hong Kong Regional Arbitration Centre. Mr. Chan taught LawTech, Innovation, Entrepreneurship, Metaverse and Openverse at CityU for JD, LLM and LLB students. Mr. Chan also maintained a weekly column in one of the local newspapers sharing legal related information to the public, and appears as host of Friday Beyond Spotlights and in other current affairs programmes.

Dr David Chung Wai-keung JP was the Under Secretary for Innovation and Technology of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region since 1 March 2016.

The Institute brings together distinguished global scholars from diverse fields to foster a multidisciplinary approach to sustainability research and training. Wendy previously worked with Boston Consulting Group and J.P. Morgan Private Bank in Hong Kong.

Calvin has 10+ years of experience in investment banking and product development. He previously worked in Global Banking at HSBC, covering client strategy and business development for institutional clients across Asia-Pacific.
Calvin is passionate about driving innovation and supporting education. Calvin is the 1st Laureate of the BOCHK Science & Technology Innovation Prize. Calvin is also a visiting Lecturer in Fintech at HKU Space, an HKU Business School mentor at The University of Hong Kong, and a steering committee member of The Chinese University of Hong Kong’s Corporate Innovation Index (CII). Calvin is a founding fellow at the Data Literacy Association (DaLa) and an honorary treasurer at the Institute of Financial Technologist Asia (IFTA). As a Hongkonger with strong Canadian ties, he has been awarded the Certificate of Achievement by the Consul General of Canada in Hong Kong and Macao to recognize his achievements in Hong Kong. Calvin holds an Honors Business Administration (HBA) degree with distinction from Ivey Business School. Calvin is a CFA charter holder.

Ivan is a digital consultant skilled at no-code tools integration and lean start-up launching.
Prior to COVID, he won the Champion in World Harmonica Festival (Duo Open category) and turned his interest into career, teaching harmonica and coaching ensembles at different educational institutions to pass on the torch.

During the COVID in early 2020, he experienced a career transition, from a harmonica teacher to a 25+ multi-cloud certified Solutions Architect in 1 year.

He later founded CloudCareerPRO to share his cloud career transition experience with students, which received the “Supporting Organization Award” by the Strive & Rise Programme.

Ivan is currently the Vice Chairman of the Hong Kong Harmonica Association. He also volunteers as a NGO Consultant via Time Auction.

Dr Victor HUNG Ph.D., adjunct associate professor of the University of Hong Kong, also a generative AI engineering professional, an expert in anti-trust analysis, and a data scientist. A chief Executive of a start-up company, www.aibyml.com, providing services on human and intelligent resource inclusion management. With 21 years of experience in online and offline consumer behaviour study, and research in corporate governance in artificial intelligence in City University, and a trainer/educator with 27 years of tertiary education teaching experience.

Mr. Jonathan Lai is the Chairman of the China Hong Kong Culture Exchange Association and the EDUC Advisory Committee of Hong Kong Baptist University. He has been a school head of two secondary schools in Hong Kong after leaving the HK-SAR Education Bureau before the turn of the century. He is now the principal of his alma mater, Lee Kau Yan Memorial School.

Mr. Lai has immense interest in studying the governance of public organizations and exploring ways to get these public corporations such as schools connected with the community and the global environment. He holds a Master Degree in public administration conferred by the University of Hong Kong and one in Language Studies awarded by the Hong Kong Baptist University on top of his B.A. (Hons.) in Chinese and English granted by the Chinese University of Hong Kong.

Nelson is the Founding CEO and Director of China Hong Kong Culture Exchange Association, Unleash Foundation, Appetizup Company Limited, and EP Venture Limited. His experiences and superior capabilities have transformed and improved startups, public and private organizations. He is passionate about social empowerment, innovation, and cultural education. Apart from his involvement in NGOs and public services, he is also interested in business strategy consulting, particularly in ESG and CSR practices.

Challenges are never an obstacle to Nelson. He views them as a motivation to improve further. Having contracted cerebral palsy as an infant, he was a frequent visitor at the hospital. The road was not easy but he made his way and was awarded a BSc in Statistics and Computer Science from the Chinese University of Hong Kong. He also completed the Master of Arts in Quantitative Analysis in Business from the City University of Hong Kong and a Master of Business Administration from the Chinese University of Hong Kong. Disability and rehabilitation are issues that remain close to his heart and with which he devoted a lot of his energy.

Prof. Wong is a prominent expert in information engineering and big data analytics at CUHK. He holds a PhD in electrical engineering from the University of Edinburgh and is a Fellow of the Association of Computational Linguistics. Awarded the Medal of Honour by the Hong Kong government in 2011, he has published over 260 papers and founded Wisers Information Limited, Hong Kong's first electronic news processing company. Professor Wong also serves in various leadership roles, including on the 13th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, and has been recognized as a Senior Member of IEEE and a Fellow of BCS, IET, and HKIE.

Raymond is the co-founder and CEO of Farmacy Hong Kong Limited, the 1st “Agri-Prop” (agriculture and properties) tech company in Asia that builds smart indoor mobile farms in highly urbanized cities, enabling supermarkets, restaurants, schools, offices, residential projects, and households to farm ultra-fresh, safe and nutrient rich green produces on-site with 100% transparent and fully automated indoor farming technologies.

Karolis has ten years of hands-on experience in four different sectors: private, public, academia and NGO. For the past 5 years he has focused on sustainability and innovation. He is a problem solver with experience in process, project, and change management with a track recording implementing and driving change management projects. Initiated and successfully implemented the first LEAN Government programme in East and Central Europe. He holds an MBA degree from the University of Hong Kong and Columbia University. Karolis previously held the CEO position at sustainable modular construction company in New York City. Now he enjoys heat and humidity in HK with his family.

Eric Ng (吳智遠), the Principal Consultant at Futures Co-create, is the developer of the pioneering Futures Co-creation Competence (FCC) framework. This framework facilitates human-human and human-AI co-creation, leverages the power of collective intelligence and artificial intelligence, and transforms tensions in diversity among people into creativity, empowering ESG, social, business, and cross-disciplinary innovations. He is also a strong advocate of UNESCO’s Futures Literacy, equipping young people, the public, and organizations with foresight, resilience, and the ability to prepare, recover and invent in the face of change. With a professional history deeply rooted in cross-cultural collaboration, innovation, data science, and international market expansion, Eric Ng's expertise spans new product development, R&D commercialization, e-commerce, and strategic outreach. He has held senior positions in Fortune Global 500 companies, leading diverse teams in various cultural and business contexts.

Dr. Joseph Francis WONG 黃偉祖博士

Professor Joseph Francis Wong is a seasoned designer and educator with over 25 years of experience in the design field. Currently Vice Principal at the Hong Kong Design Institute, he previously taught at the City University of Hong Kong for 19 years. With a Bachelor’s from Berkeley, a Master’s from MIT, and a Doctorate from Leicester, he is a Fellow of the Hong Kong Institute of Architects. Professor Wong's research has been widely published, and he served on the juror panel for the prestigious Red Dot Award in 2018, showcasing his commitment to advancing design education and practice globally.

Kelvin holds a bachelor's degree in Quantitative Finance from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. During the pandemic, he founded ReCube, a social innovation that provides reusable tableware rental services for takeaway and events to reduce waste at source. He firmly believes that being green can be down-to-earth by making it convenient and cost-saving.

He is a youth representative in “The Council of YMCAs” and the “Asia and Pacific Alliance of YMCAs’s Task Force on Environment and Climate Change”, to drive sustainability with the YMCA movement. Furthermore, He is a YDC Youth Ambassador and Committee Member of Youth Link for the Home and Youth Affairs Bureau of the HKSAR Government.

Kimberly was raised in both California and Hong Kong. She is a CUHK MBA candidate and currently working in an HK Asset management listed company. As well she acquired diving instructor qualification from National Association of Underwater Instructors (US NAUI).

Kelvin is the founder of Re:learn, an EdTech company dedicated to utilizing innovative technology to promote inclusive experiences and social integration across different sectors.

The team applies virtual reality technology in the fields of rehabilitation and education. Through immersive experiences, they aid individuals with disabilities and the elderly in rehabilitation exercises and simulate electric wheelchair training. Additionally, they apply these experiences in the educational domain, allowing students to immerse themselves in interactive and engaging experiences that enable them to empathize with marginalized communities. Through service-learning, students also utilize their acquired technological knowledge to serve disadvantaged communities. The team aims to achieve intergenerational and inclusive integration through the
combination of technology and education.

Founded and launched www.dreamwriters.press, an ed-tech startup offering a storytelling platform for kids to write, design, and publish books, fostering their creativity and literacy. An entrepreneur and accomplished marketing director with over 15 years of brand and agency experience in business and consumer technology. Led organizations to achieve #1 market share in their respective categories by creating brand strategies, campaigns, and events that foster meaningful customer connections.

Dr. Samson Tam is a technology entrepreneur with over 20 years of business management experience. He founded his startup and launched the successful "Instant-Dict" electronic dictionaries, leading to its listing on the Main Board in 1993. An active angel investor, Dr. Tam focuses on mobile internet, IoT, and healthcare, and is committed to nurturing startup ecosystems. He is currently Chairman of Group Sense Limited and the Hong Kong Industry-University-Research Collaboration Association, and serves as a Partner at Hong Kong Inno Angel Fund. Dr. Tam has received several awards, including the "Young Industrialist Award of Hong Kong" in 1992.

David B. Wang is the Founder of krip, a Hong Kong-based fintech startup that has developed the first centralized credit card deals platform. krip is a Cyberport-incubated startup that went on to win the Hong Kong ICT Awards 2023 FinTech Grand Award and Award of the Year, being the first fintech company to win the prestigious ICT Award of the Year recognition in the competition's history. Most recently, David was selected as a Tatler Gen. T 2024 honoree.

Prior to krip, David was a private equity and venture capital investor at Blue Pool Capital, family office of Alibaba Chairman Joe Tsai, and an investment banker at Credit Susise, covering financial institutional clients' M&A activities across Asia and the Middle East.

David completed his undergraduate studies in Economics from the University of Michigan, where he was recognized as a James B. Angell Scholar.

Hanyuan (Karen) Wang serves as the CEO and founder of Climind, a data-as-a-service platform that delivers actionable climate data infrastructure through AI technologies to facilitate mitigation and adaptation solutions. She is the first Chinese female to be selected as a Young Leader for the SDGs recognized by the United Nations. Additionally, she is a member of the Board of Directors for the Foundation for the Museum of the United Nations - UN Live.
Karen is also a research assistant at Imperial College London's Centre for Climate Finance and Investment (CCFI), where her work centers on voluntary carbon markets, climate risks, and nature-based solutions with a particular focus on the Asian market. She was named to Forbes' 30 Under 30.
In addition to her climate-focused pursuits, Karen has gained valuable experience in the data sector through her work with Merrill Lynch and Microsoft. She went to Hong Kong Baptist University, Imperial College London, and is a Schwarzman Scholar from Tsinghua University.
With her Bai ethnic background, Karen also dedicates her time to preserving the disappearing Bai dialect in China.

John Whatley is a seasoned entrepreneur with over a decade of experience in real estate, technology, and business development. As the founder of DreamHouse Co-living, he has pioneered innovative co-living spaces across six countries, blending smart technology with shared amenities. John's expertise spans STR operations, global real estate development, and private equity, having raised significant funds and secured valuable patents. His strategic vision has driven the expansion of DreamHouse's portfolio internationally, while his leadership in technology implementation has set new standards in the industry. John's ability to identify opportunities, forge partnerships, and drive growth has established him as a respected figure in the evolving landscape of modern living solutions.

Ivan is an organizational psychologist, engineer, author and mentor. He currently serves as the Manager at the Hong Kong Metropolitan University, where he hopes to inspire and nurture the university’s startup ecosystem. He is also the founder of Nanyang Angelz, an angel investment group, an Adjunct Professor with UNITAR International University (Entrepreneurship & Social Innovation), a startup mentor for MDEC (an agency of the Malaysian Government), and speaker at startup events such as StartupLand Egypt.

As the Head of Global Social Responsibility Initiatives with the European Mentoring & Coaching Council (EMCC) and the Co-President of EMCC Asia Pacific Region, he has initiated various global social responsibility programs in Africa, Asia and Europe for the underprivileged youth, women and disabled graduates.

An avid writer and speaker, he authored the book, “Department of Startup : Why Every Fortune 500 Should Have One”, by BEP, New York; essentially a book on the adoption of innovative startup culture for the corporates. He is also the co-author of “The Ethical Coaches’ Handbook. A Guide to Developing Ethical Maturity in Practice” by Routledge 2022. His latest published work is a case study on mentoring startup founder with SAGE Business (Coaching & Mentoring Series).

A language enthusiast, Ivan speaks 7 languages and is a member of The International Association of Hyperpolyglots (HYPIA).
