Course Description

This interactive course offers a comprehensive framework for integrating Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) risk and opportunity management into your organization's business strategy. Designed for business leaders, sustainability professionals, and decision-makers, the program provides practical tools to enhance performance, manage risks, and capitalize on ESG opportunities in an increasingly complex and changing world.

In today's rapidly changing and uncertain global landscape, ESG is essential for staying ahead. This course highlights how ESG is a strategic tool for driving innovation, building resilience, and creating long-term value. Leveraging globally recognized frameworks and best practices from the Committee of Sponsoring Organizations of the Treadway Commission (COSO) and the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD), participants will learn how to apply Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) principles specifically to ESG-related challenges. The course provides a deep dive into identifying, assessing, and mitigating risks such as extreme weather events, supply chain disruptions, and shifting regulatory landscapes.

Through a combination of expert-led discussions, case studies, and interactive exercises, participants will explore strategies to:

  • Integrate ESG into enterprise-wide risk management frameworks
  • Navigate the growing impact of climate change, human rights concerns, and governance challenges
  • Address the urgency of managing risks related to extreme weather events (heatwaves, droughts, flooding, wildfires) and other global challenges
  • Utilize best practices for ESG disclosures and stakeholder engagement strategies
  • Leverage circular economy principles for risk reduction and opportunity identification in resource efficiency

By the end of the course, participants will have gained actionable insights into:

  • Strategies for navigating ESG risks and opportunities in an increasingly dynamic and complex business environment.
  • Approaches to prioritizing ESG issues that enhance organizational resilience, performance, and long-term value creation.
  • Leveraging ESG as a strategic competitive advantage to drive sustainability, growth, and innovation.

Expected Learning Outcomes

The course is designed to give participants an in-depth understanding of ESG-related risks and their significant implications for business strategy. Participants will gain practical insights into Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) tools, enabling them to assess and prioritize ESG risks effectively within their organizations.

The course will emphasize the integration of human rights considerations into business practices, demonstrating how addressing these issues not only meets stakeholder and consumer expectations but also drives economic growth and long-term business resilience. Furthermore, participants will explore the evolving natural capital landscape, learning how to incorporate it into decision-making processes and how it complements existing approaches for measuring and valuing business impacts and dependencies. Key concepts such as fiduciary duties, stakeholder governance, and business resilience will be explored in detail, offering practical strategies to enhance adaptability to evolving ESG challenges.
