Market report for 2020

Nielsen Vietnam survey 2020 shows that among items that have seen robust consumption recently, consumers are prioritizing healthy food along with essential items. There is stronger focus on measures to boost immune system and maintain health, including fresh foods, healthy foods and drinks with immune boosting ingredients.

Top growth F&B products are those that include auxiliary nutrients like vitamin C, D, Omega 3 and probiotics, keeping the immune system healthy. For essential commodities such as milk, Vietnamese consumers have switched from pasteurized or sterilized milk to plant-based milk such as dark sesame milk, beans, walnuts and rice milk.

With the fallout of China-USA trade war, many SE Asian countries grasp opportunities to increase their shares in international trade and manufacturing.

Vietnam is one of them, with Food & Beverages sector accounting for 15% of Vietnam's GDP and steady 7% annual growth.

With a market of 100 million people, Vietnam has a young population structure (60% of the population aged 18-50) and household expenditure is expected to increase by 10.5% per year on average and will reach 714 USD / month in 2020. Therefore, the conditions for Vietnamese businesses to access the domestic market are favorable, despite the pandemic.

HOT NEWS: Dr. Nguyen Thi Thu Trang - Director of WTO and Integration Center, Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) - agreed in the context that exports still face many difficulties due to the impact of the Covid-19 epidemic. That is why, businesses should be focusing hard on the domestic which is drastically increasing consumption of the domestic products. "When exports are still lacking in signs of recovery, the domestic market deserves the attention and focus of the manufacturers" - Dr. Nguyen Thi Thu Trang emphasized.

During this event, our Expert Guest Speakers will tackle the most important issues for sustaining the development rate of the F&B industry in Vietnam:

  2. Increasing output capacity through automation.
  3. Improving Quality Control to access higher profitability markets.
  4. Introducing healthy options in response to customer demands.
