Professor Elvis Au, BBS, is currently Adjunct Professor of the University of Hong Kong, giving lectures and courses on sustainability, ESG, circular economy, waste management, environmental planning & EIA, sustainable finance, climate risk and carbon neutrality. Prof Au is a Founding Fellow of both Hong Kong Institute of Qualified Environmental Professionals and Hong Kong Institute of EIA, a Fellow of Hong Kong Institution of Engineers and a Fellow of Hong Kong Institute of Planners. He is the former Deputy Director of the Environmental Protection Department of the HKSAR Government, the former President of International Association for Impact Assessment and the former Chairman of the Environmental Division of HKIE.
Prof Au has over 40 years of experiences (including 32 years in the Government) in environmental protection, nature conservation and sustainability. He was the mastermind of many major environmental policies and projects in Hong Kong, including the setting up of the EIA Ordinance and strategic environmental assessment system, Government’s environmental reporting and corporate environmental management, noise policy, building energy efficiency legislation, major waste to energy facilities including the first Integrated Waste Management Facility for 3000 tonnes per day and the first Organic Waste Treatment Facility in Hong Kong, smart environmental technologies, food waste policy, water quality and sewage treatment policy and programme including Harbour Area Treatment Scheme Phase 2A, green procurement and green building policies, and the formulation of the first Hong Kong Biodiversity Strategy and Action plan. He set up EPD’s Environmental Academy in 2018 and, in 2018-20, was the head of the Environmental Academy which trained over 1000 professional and technical staff and many environmental graduates supported by the Government’s employment subsidy scheme.
Prof Au was the chairman of HKIE Green Finance Task Force in 2017, leading to the production of the first green finance report by a professional body in Hong Kong. Recently, Prof Au has been engaged by the Hong Kong Securities and Futures Commission and Hong Kong Monetary Authority as a trainer on sustainable finance, climate risk and green policies . He also served as a trainer on sustainable waste management and circular economy for Asian Development Bank to help develop high level government officials and professionals in Asia. He is one of the key authors of the environmental chapters of Hong Kong Chronicle.
Prof Au is also a co-founder of the IESG Technologies Ltd which assists organisations in achieving United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals using the most adavanced artificial intelligence and digital technologies.
Mr. Freeman Cheung is the regional executive responsible for AECOM’s environmental management practice in Hong Kong and Japan. Mr. Cheung is a seasoned environmental consultant with more than 30 years’ experience in environmental impact assessment for major infrastructure projects. He is also an air quality specialist directing the Review of the Air Quality Objectives Study 2030 and the Formulation of Ozone Control Policy in the Greater Bay Area studies for EPD.
Mr. Cheung is very active in the environmental professional field and helped found the Hong Kong Institute of Qualified Environmental Professionals (HKIQEP), the Environmental Management Association of Hong Kong (EMAHK) and the Hong Kong Institute of Environmental Impact Assessment (HKIEIA). He also serves on the CIWEM Air Technical Panel and Advisory Committee for Chinese University of Hong Kong and City University of Hong Kong as well as part-time lecturer at the University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology and City University of Hong Kong.
Mr. Cheung is currently the Chairman of HKIQEP as well as the past Chair of EMAHK and past Chairman of HKIEIA.
Dr. Billy Hau Chi Hang received his PhD from the University of Hong Kong in forest ecology. He is a terrestrial ecologist and a conservationist. His research focus is ecological restoration, especially for terrestrial habitats in degraded tropical East Asia. He aims to bring back native forest and the associated forest biodiversity into the degraded landscape in Hong Kong and South China.
Dr. Hau has been promoting urban biodiversity through applied research. He is a local expert in ecological restoration on man-made slopes and natural terrains and is often engaged by the government in contract research projects on trees and slopes in Hong Kong. He founded the HKU Eco-Leaders Training Programme in 2009 which involves training students on field ecology in preparation for expeditions to global biodiversity hotspots including Tanzania, Kenya, Madagascar, India, Sri Lanka, Sulawesi, the Galapagos, and the Amazon. He is a mentor of many young conservationists in Hong Kong who are now contributing to environmental conservation. He has also led and contributed to many ecological and biodiversity related projects in Hong Kong, which has won him several awards.
His commitment to environmental advocacy is evident through his participation in various environmental NGOs and government committees focused on ecology and conservation. He has been serving as a Council Member of the Hong Kong Institute of Qualified Environmental Professionals Limited (HKIQEP); a member of the Scientific Advisory Committee of the Ocean Park Conservation Foundation. He is a member of the EIA Appeal Board, and the Urban Forestry Advisory Panel of the HK SAR Government. In the past, he was a member of the Country and Marine Parks Board, the Advisory Council on the Environment and Town Planning Board.
Vincent currently spearheads the decarbonizing value chain and broader project sustainability efforts for Sun Hung Kai Properties. Vincent has over 25 years of experience in sustainability across various fields including corporate, project, compliance, standard-setting, communications and finance. In the past decade, he has served in multiple overseeing positions of key sustainability drivers in Hong Kong and overseas. They include the Board of Hong Kong Green Building Council, the Steering Committee of the Climate Change Business Forum for the Business Environment Council and the Global Sustainability Standard Board for GRI.
Vincent is a BEAM professional, a WELL AP (candidate), a Green Building Faculty of BEAM Society, a GRI Certified Sustainability Professional, a Fellow of the Hong Kong Institution of Certified Auditors, a Member of the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers and a Member of the Association of Energy Engineers. He graduated from the University of Toronto ("UofT") and earned two master's degrees in engineering from UofT and theology from Regent College, Canada, respectively.
Before joining SHKP, he founded a regional sustainability consultancy team to serve listed companies, state-owned enterprises and their businesses overseas.
Ms. Sarah Mak has over 30 years of experience specializing in Operational Excellence and Business Processes with a focus on environmental impact. She worked as an ISO 9000 (quality), QS 9000 (automotive), ISO 14000 (environment), and TickIT (software development) auditor for 7 years and has audited almost 300 companies globally in a broad spectrum of industries in the manufacturing, service, IT, and software development sectors. She has also worked at various business units of the Dutch giant, Royal Philips, in global capacities relating to Business Excellence, as well as in the property management arm of Cheung Kong Holdings Limited.
With a strong focus on business processes, Sarah led numerous process realignment and improvement projects across global functions in different business units of Philips, at Cheung Kong, and in her capacity as consultant for her clients. Utilizing her engineering background and environmental management knowledge, Sarah has facilitated, managed, led, and participated in numerous improvement projects of different scales. Her expertise is to help companies meet and exceed their legal and/or industry defined requirements while focusing on improving the bottom line and reducing impact to the environment.
Ms. Mak serves on various committees of several professional associations. Currently, she sits on the Qualification Panel of the Hong Kong Institute of Qualified Environmental Professionals Limited (HKIQEP). She is the Regional Executive Director of the Quality Management Division of American Society of Quality (ASQ), and a Board Member of the Environmental Management Association of Hong Kong Limited (EMAHK). Sarah was a co-opt member of the QS 9000 Certification Council of the HKQAA (Hong Kong Quality Assurance Agency) from 1998 to 2002 and served as Chair for the Hong Kong Total Quality Forum in 2006 and 2007.
Ms. Mak holds a Bachelor of Applied Science in Industrial Engineering from the University of Toronto, and a Master of Science in Environmental Management from The University of Hong Kong. She is a Founding Fellow of HKIQEP and a Certified Member of EMAHK.
Mr. Eddie Tse has more than 26 years’ experience in construction and environmental field and specializes in sediment and land contamination assessment and remediation, carbon/energy management, renewable energy projects and waste/asbestos management. In Gammon, He has been involved in a number of infrastructure and building projects such as road and drainage, site formation and land decontamination, railway, power plant emission control facility, tunnel and rock cavern and Government Head Quarter development.
He is the vice chairman of Environment Committee, Hong Kong Construction Association and member of Climate Change Business Forum of the Business Environment Council. He is appointed as a construction advisor in development of Construction Industry Council Carbon Assessment Tool and Sustainable Finance Certification scheme. He is also appointed by Environment and Ecology Bureau and Hong Kong Green Building Council to be a member of Working Group for the Review of the Air Quality Objectives and a co-opted member of Climate Change Framework for Building & Construction Expert Group under the Sustainable Development Committee respectively.
Eddie is a member of UK CARES Assured Steel Certification Sustainability Technical Committee. Eddie graduated from the Department of Chemical Engineering from the University of British Columbia in Canada, and has a Master of Science (Major in Environmental Engineering) degree from The Hong Kong Polytechnic University.
Eddie is a Fellow member of the Hong Kong Institute of Qualified Environmental Professionals, Certified Carbon Auditor (Cement/Steel/Concrete) under the CIC Green Product Certification Scheme, Certified Energy Manager/Carbon Audit Professional of US Association of Energy Engineer and a Qualified Project Assessor of BREEAM Infrastructure (formerly CEEQUAL, UK BRE). He is also a qualified assessor of CIC Sustainable Finance Certification Scheme and a Certified ESG Analyst CESGA® of The European Federation of Financial Analysts Societies.
