Gary Funk, former director and founding board member of the Rural Schools Collaborative, published this op-ed in response to recent media coverage of the teacher shortage. Higher-ed institutions, the Department of Education, and the philanthropic sector all have a role to play, and in this article, Gary explores how developing a Normal School Rural Teacher Corps initiative could be a powerful tool for economic development, and attracting teacher-leaders to rural areas.
