USED Revises Maintenance of Equity Guidance
White House Launches National Effort to Increase Student Vaccination Rates The Biden administration outlined several actions for schools and colleges to increase vaccination rates among students. Recommendations include requiring COVID-19 vaccination as part of sports physicals for student-athletes; inviting pediatricians to school reopening events (e.g., back-to-school nights); and providing resources to schools to host pop-up vaccination clinics on campuses. ESSER Spending Plans Approved For Five More States USED announced that it has approved plans for five additional states and their proposed use of ARP ESSER funding. With the approval of Hawaii, Montana, New Hampshire, New York, and Pennsylvania, 22 states have now received their full ARP ESSER allocations. (A full list of approved state plans is here.) |

Today the U.S. Census Bureau released additional 2020 Census results that highlight local population changes and the nation’s racial and ethnic diversity. The 2020 Census Redistricting Data provide the first look at populations for small areas and include information on Hispanic origin, race, age 18 and over, housing occupancy, and group quarters. They represent where people were living as of April 1, 2020, and are available for the nation, states, and communities down to the block level. To help illustrate and explain the new 2020 Census data, we also today released data visualizations, America Counts stories, and videos. | Strong schools are essential to strengthen rural communities, which is why the Community Foundation of Greater Dubuque facilitates initiatives focused on issues of student achievement like third-grade reading proficiency and college access. Now, the Foundation is expanding its work to bolster rural education as it becomes the new Iowa hub for Rural Schools Collaborative (RSC). As RSC’s Iowa hub, the Community Foundation’s goal is to support thriving rural communities through a focus on one of the systems that has the biggest impact on small-town quality of life: education. The Foundation will work to enhance the vitality of rural education by bridging local generosity, ingenuity, and leadership with efforts like teacher training and place-based learning. |
