Tools to support homeless people and help educate learners about parasites and the use of art in healthcare have helped win researchers at De Montfort University Leicester (DMU) award nominations.

Three separate projects have been shortlisted at this year’s LeicestershireLive Innovation Awards 2021.

In the Innovation in Education and Training category, DMU was recognised for its ‘e-Parasitology Project’; a dedicated website designed to help students and academics in the field of biomedical science gain easy access to a number of learning resources.

Created and developed by researchers at DMU’s School of Allied Health Sciences, and supported by partners at CEU San Pablo University in Madrid and Miguel Hernández University of Elche in Alicante, the e-Parasitology resource has been used to help improve public health standards overseas, including in Sierra Leone, where the Ebola virus outbreak in 2014 left thousands of citizens there at risk of disease.

The Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU) has put the University of Exeter 151 to 200 in the world and 15 to 20 in the UK.

The ARWU is published and copyrighted by ShanghaiRanking Consultancy, a fully independent organization on higher education intelligence and not legally subordinated to any universities or government agencies.

ARWU uses six objective indicators to rank world universities, including the number of alumni and staff winning Nobel Prizes and Fields Medals, number of highly cited researchers selected by Clarivate Analytics, number of articles published in journals of Nature and Science, number of articles indexed in Science Citation Index - Expanded and Social Sciences Citation Index, and per capita performance of a university. More than 1800 universities are actually ranked by ARWU every year and the best 1000 are published.

An alumnus of LBU himself, Agung Adi Nugraha shared that one of the challenges he faced was actually starting the personal statement itself! So.. better start now and take your time than rush your essay!
