Launch of Business Excellence Awards 2022!

At the recently concluded New Year's Drinks event, the Chamber ecstatically launched the Business Excellence Awards 2022! After a 2 year hiatus, the flagship event returns to honor British and Malaysian brands and personalities who have made strides to progress the business and trade landscape, across different industry and scale. This year, the grandeur event will take place at Sunway Hotel & Resort on 26th May 2022.

The Awards offer a heightened standard of recognition, excellence and progress to acknowledge the bilateral achievements and success. Some of the past winners include renowned brands, such as Sports Direct, Tesco Stores, YTL Corp, Sunway Medical Center, PwC, Capital DK and Dyson Manufacturing. This year, we are opening up a grand total of seven (7) Award categories with three (3) new editions: Technology & Innovation, Outstanding ESG and Export Excellence - offering a wider playing field for any and all brands seeking an accolade for their efforts in the past years.

List and brief of each Award are as follows:

The pinnacle achievement at the BMCC Business Excellence Awards; this award recognises a British company investing in Malaysia or a Malaysian company investing in the UK, having displayed a stellar track record of investment in the opposite country by building on its successful local business; bringing mutual economic benefit to both nations.

The outstanding Partnership Award goes to an individual, team or company that has successfully partnered with a UK or Malaysian counterpart. The joint-venture collaboration and synergies created through this partnership will have driven exceptional commercial results and shown significant value-creation to the economy; capitalising on the best of UK & Malaysia expertise through a seamless partnership.

The outstanding award goes to a UK higher or further education institution that has partnered with Malaysian organisation(s) to deliver significant impact in the last 5 years. The joint-venture collaboration and synergies created through this partnership will have driven exceptional results and shown significant value-creation to the education sector in Malaysia; capitalising on the best of UK & Malaysia expertise through a seamless partnership.

This award recognises companies of all sizes, across all industries that have shown their commitment to developing a diverse workforce. This award recognises organisations that have effective strategy, policies and programs with an ongoing commitment to drive diversity and inclusion in the workplace.

This award is given to an organisation that have successfully pursued new solutions through the application of digital, innovative and disruptive technologies to operate with greater efficiency and ultimately contributing to Malaysia’s productivity enhancement and paving the way towards technological advancement especially in the last two years.

This award seeks to recognise the achievements of companies that have demonstrated outstanding achievements in adopting ESG practices within their companies, contributing significantly towards the environment and communities, as well as advocating for these initiatives within their industry, supply chains and clients.

This award recognises a UK company exporting to Malaysia or a Malaysian company exporting to the UK, having displayed a stellar track record of exports to the opposite country, bringing mutual economic benefit to both nations.

BMCC | New Year's Drinks

Our first physical networking event of the year was a success! The New Year's Drinks was held at Royal Selangor Visitor Center on 13 January 2022 and was attended by the British High Commissioner to Malaysia, H.E Charles Hay MVO, BMCC Chairman Abrar A. Anwar alongside members and prospects alike.
 
The night started off with a welcome message from BMCC Chairman Abrar A. Anwar where he touched on overcoming the setbacks of the pandemic and how the year 2022 offers a great platform for recovery for both industries and businesses alike - with the Chamber playing a pivotal role as a facilitator through high-level engagements and advocacy. Chairman rounded up his message with wishing a safe, successful and rewarding 2022 to all in attendance.
 
Right after, the Chamber handed out an appreciation plaque to Mr David Ng of International SOS - who stepped down from his active role within the Chamber's Board. Jennifer Lopez, BMCC Chief Executive Officer thanked him for his commitment, effort and contribution after 10 years of active participation and wished him well in future endeavors.

To end the night - British High Commissioner to Malaysia, H.E Charles Hay MVO gave a short message reemphasizing the need to rebound and recover, on top of reassuring the importance of bilateral ties between British and Malaysia and new growth areas such as green technology and digital economy.
 
As a wrap up, H.E Charles Hay led the toast to the new year and the night continued with splendid food, beverages and networking opportunities.

Updated Isolation and Quarantine Period for COVID-19 Positive Cases & their Close Contacts
The Ministry of Health updated the isolation and quarantine period required for COVID-19 positive cases and their close contacts depending on their vaccination status, including booster dose. The new quarantine period will be effective by 16 January as in the infographic below. The ministry also continues to requests for those eligible for the booster dose to accept the appointments which will be provided via MySejahtera.
